It's called the FMLA - Family Medical Leave Act. You are not necessarily entitled by law to 12 weeks. You're only entitled to UP TO 12 weeks IF you meet ALL of the following:
you've been at your job at least a year
you've worked at least 1250 hours within the 12 months preceeding leave
your company employees at least 50 employees within a 75 mile radius
I work at a HUGE fortune 500 company with employees though out the US and Canada. I'm not eligible because we do not have 50 employees WITHIN 75 miles. We have thousands of employees, but the nearest office to mine is in Mississippi and I'm in Alabama. My office only employees 14. My company does, however, offer 12 weeks unpaid leave that is NOT covered under the FMLA, meaning that they CAN terminate me under certain provisions, provided it isn't discrimination.
I hope I'm not bursting your bubble. I thought I was covered under the FMLA for sure, but I'm not. It's tricky. You can however, take out a short term disability policy or check into your state short term disability. Some states offer it. You'll have to find a disability company that will cover maternity leave and pre-existing conditions.
My suggestion is to contact your HR dept or supervisor and negotiate if you're not eligible. Perhaps you can work some from home if you have that option?
Nice. Yea i dont have that much vacation time saved up because i just started my job march but i will tell them that ill be out for 2 months at least
No problem!!!!! I was asking the same thing and my boss was just out last year for her daughter and told me about that!!!!! Besides if you want to take a vacation and use your time they can't do anything
Omg thank you!!! I will look into that!! Thank u so much for that
You are entitled by law for your job to hold your position for 3 months for the sake of taking care of a newborn!!!!!! Check it out and get what you deserve!!!!
