progestorone advice needed

hi there ladies,

ok so ill try and cut a long story short,
i found out i was preg 18oct at 5w6d i was bleeding so when to a&e they did my bloods 596 and a scan a sac was found.
36hrs later my hcg had declined to 257 i started heavy bleeding (miscarriage a couple of days later) so iv been going in every week to have my hcg monitored.
So after being literally heartbroken i searched the web and came up with this site now i heard some miscarriages are due to progestorone so when i went back to the early preg unit for my hcg i asked her to check my progestorone well my hcg was 136 and progestorone was 5 i could tell by the look on her face this wasnt good but she said when my hcg went back to 0 i wuld have to have it tested on day 21 of my cycle.
Now i cant help but think they should have checked this earlier and could have maybe stopped the miscarriage am i right in thinking this?
My last hcg was 17th dec and was 69 so due to go back 5th jan.
Should i persue this progestorone or am i floggin a dead horse so to speak.

Any advice would be greatly apreciated!

ohh and Happy New Year to all :-D

When I had my first blood test for pregnancy with this pregnancy they did a progesterone level check too. However with my first pregnancy my progesterone was not checked and I did miscarry. With this pregnancy my progesterone level was great and indicated that I ovulated twice. Apparently normally they don't check progesterone in all offices but next time i would demand it as low progesterone CAN cause miscarriage. I am so sorry for your loss.

Also a 21 day progesterone check indicates if you have ovulated and if it's high enough to sustain pregnancy and then if that level is low they can supplement if it was even high enough for you to have ovulated.

well quick update........
Visited my GP and hes said its more than likely that i had the miscarriage due to chromasone abnormalitys and said protocol says they cannot investigate until iv had 3 miscarriages (iv had 2 ectopis and 2 miscarriages to date now argghh) he said as i ovulate its most likely my progestorone is normal, but im afraid im not letting this one go hes given me clomid and told me to try them but has totally contradicted himself because i ovulate on my own iv heard clomid only helps if you dont?.?
Luckily i have 2 docs in my practise so im going to make an appointment with the other just because protocol doesnt say i cant be investigated i wont take it i cant go through another failed pregnancy :-( if all else fails my father-in-law has said he will pay for me to go private rather than the NHS maybe theyll be abit more likely to help,
My doc also refused to send me back to the gynae specialist as he said theyd done all investigations and sent me to IVF but as i explained im only 25 and would like to leave that as a last option. Also when they did discharge me at gynae id had no pregnancys so it was explained as simple as you will never conceive naturally so IVF is your only option i have now conceived 4times arggghhhhhhhhhh

Sorry for the story book just a little frustrated no one will listen.

Hi. I did my 1st FET and insisted on taking Progesterone pessaries wile in the TWW and i am now 5w 2d pregnant. I knew from previous cycles, that my progesterone levels were low so tried to do the best i could for my 2 embryos.
Not sure that answered your question, but definately insist on progesterone testing and medication...just in case a baby is created, you wana keep it there!

I agree. In many offices a progesterone check is not routine and normally isn't done until it's demanded or multiple miscarriages are experienced. You will be able to have it done in future pregnancies though if you show a history of low progesterone and it might help IF the miscarriage was indeed due to low progesterone and not something that was inevitable.

I think you should follow up on the progesterone test for sure. I had low levels at the beginning of this pregnancy. I'm not sure if my pregnancy would have made it or not but my level was a 13. As a precaution, my doc had me take natural progesterone through the first trimester. It's worth a shot.

I'm so sorry about your miscarriage. I hope you are healing okay and best wishes on TTC.

thanks very much for your reply.
ive searched and searched the internet until im literally blue in the face and can find that spotting in early preg is a sign of low progestorone, breast tenderness, cramping and lower back pain all of which i had iv never had my progestorone tested before to be honest id never heard of it before but i have very very unusual cycles and im wondering if its also down to this?  but if i do get preg again i now know to ask to be tested.

thanks again.
