Miscarriage? Ectopic? Normal?

Hi All! I'm hoping someone could offer up some advice. I'm 22 years old and found out three weeks ago that I am pregnant. I was so excited once this was confirmed!! I went in to have an U/S two weeks ago, and they were unable to find anything. Come to find out my HCG levels were extremely low, and as the doctor said, I was like five minutes pregnant when I came in. Any who, they had me do blood tests every 48 hours for 8 days to track my HCG levels, and they were doubling appropriately. I was scheduled for an ultra sound today, however yesterday I woke up and I was bleeding. I immediately went to the hospital and they ran my HCG level again and I was at 12000. They performed a pelvic exam and saw that my cervix was closed so they ruled out miscarriage. I was taken in for an ultrasound (both T/V and abnominal) and they were able to see a gestation sac aged 5 weeks 0 days but nothing else (no yolk sac or fetal pole). After the doctor came in, he told me that there were two (unconfirmed) diagnosis, 1) miscarriage or 2) ectopic pregnancy. After being miserable for a day I started doing further research. From my findings, gestation sacs are not found in ectopic pregnancies, and a closed cervix is not possible with miscarriage. I also have absolutly NO pain, ANYWHERE!. I dont know what to think at this point. I also found that many U/S cannot pick up an embryo/fetus until the 6-8th week. I'm very confused, dont understand, and am a complete wreck. I dont want to get my hopes up about there being a possibility that the doctors are wrong, nor do I want to challenge a doctor, but nothing makes sense! Can anyone offer any advice on my situation?

Thanks!!

Hi, im not sure if this will be much help but I am going through the same thing. my HCG levels are right where they should be and my cervix is closed but at 8 weeks my doctor still cant find anything on u/s he told me yesterday that I am most likely miscarring, I have no bleeding or cramping and i still feel pregnant. I really hope everything will be ok with you and your pregnancy. no one should have to go through losing a baby. God bless.

Not to be negative but when I went to the hospital when i was bleeding they said my cervix was closed but i had a miscarriage...so you can have a closed cervix with a m/c. Regardless, i hope everything works out for you and I will keep my fingers crossed! Good luck

When I was pregnant the first time my cevix was closed but I did end up miscarrying. I also had no pain when I began to bleed and my cervix was closed when I began to bleed. So it is still possible for you to miscarry. Yes at 5 weeks there isn't much to be seen in an ultrasound. There isn't a heartbeat and not much going on. I would continue to see how it progresses. It is possible this is a normal healthy pregnancy, it is possible that you will miscarry and it is possible it is something else like a blidded ovum sorry i don't know how to spell it. I wish I could be more optimistic or sure of what it is. Also remember that ER dr while they have training in OB GYNO it isn't their speciality so always speak with your OB also.
Good luck!
