Morning Sickness and Cyclizine

I've really been suffering with morning sickness or all day and night sickness as I like to call it. My doctor has prescribed Cyclizine, but it says NOT to be taken when pregnant, unless advised by a doctor, which seems a bit ambiguous to me. Can anyone reassure me about it's safety.

Thank you.

Thank you for responding, I live in the uk. I think every country uses what they know, it seems that a lot of doctors prescibe it over here. Fortunately my sickness seems to have settled down a bit, so I'm not going to use it unless I get it bad again.

This is the best I could find from a UK pregnancy site.  A big thing is that drugs can't be tested on pregnant women, so warnings are always placed about taking during pregnancy.  If Dr.s have used a medication in many pregnancies and have not had any poor outcomes they tend to believe it safe.

When are anti-sickness medicines needed?

Most pregnant women manage to eat and drink enough and they don't need anti-sickness medicines. However, an anti-sickness medicine may be advised if your symptoms are persistent and severe, or do not settle with the above measures.

It is generally best to avoid medicines when you are pregnant (including herbal remedies as the contents are often uncertain). However, some medicines have been used for a number of years to treat sickness and vomiting in pregnancy and are thought to be safe. For example, many women have used promethazine or cyclizine and there is no evidence that they harm a developing baby. There are some others if these are not helpful.

Always see a doctor before taking an anti-sickness medicine when you are pregnant. It is best to use medication for the shortest time possible. However, for some women, medication may needed for several weeks before symptoms settle.

Where do you live? I know there are different, safety established options in both Canada and the US. I also suffered greatly from morning sickness in both of my pregnancies and understand how awful it can be. Can you call your doctor's office and express your concern and ask for a safety established option? Insist to speak with him/her today.

I tried googling the drug but couldn't find anythign other than warnings against taking it while pregnant.
