I live in Louisiana and that is how it's done here. You might just want to ask next time.

I have to pee in a cup as well but my last appointment I asked what they were testing for and the nurse told me they check for UTI'S, protein and sugar in urine as well as to see if you are dehydrated. You will have to be notified if you are being tested for drugs. They can't do that without permission.

They have you go in a cup for a few reasons that also includes checking the urine for protein which is a sign of a pregnancy complication.  To be totally honest, unless they did it without consent, I don't think my urine at routine doctor's visits was tested for drugs.  I think this will vary by state to state and whatnot.  Pot isn't legal in my state so they frown on any usage and CPS gets involved if a baby's first bowel movement has any traces of it.  You also do blood work at various times and that too is when it could show up.  But to my knowledge, my urine samples were for protein.  good luck
