I've never heard of any of that. My ob said there are plenty of women who go to the nail salon before giving birth. It doesn't effect your pulse.

They'd prefer if you have at least one finger (an index finger is best) without polish to get an accurate reading of your oxygen saturation. To know if your breathing is adequate or if you need to be put on oxygen. Not usually a problem with natural births but with interventions you need to be monitored more closely since interventions (induction, epidural, c-section, etc) can cause dangerous side effects.

They prefer polish over shellac if its the thicker stuff ONLY bc should they need to rush you for an emergency c sec they need as accurate of a reading of your pulse as possible and some shellacs and polishes hinder this and make their job harder. Do they prefer no nail polish? Yeah. Is it frowned upon? Not really.

Not true. I had my hands and toes done a few days before I went into labor with both kids. I wanted to look somewhat decent cause I hate how my feet look
