The states do things com, pletely different to the uk.since we have the nhs service which entitles everyone to this treatment, which is free.and is nessasary since we now have screening tests done, which they cant do past 16 weeks.i had numerous one throughout my 7 pregnancys, due to high risk, but even as a newbie this is how they work.you need to chase this up hun.

I have had 2 u/s already one at 7 weeks, one at 12 weeks and am having another one at 20 weeks to determine gender. I think it all depends on the doctor and the insurance companies. I guess you could always go to the ER and get one or demand one from the doctors office.

I'm in the US so things are probably done differently here, but with most uneventful pregnancies you only get the one scan at 20 weeks. If you don't know your dates or have a history of m/c or ectopic, they will give you an earlier one to rule out things and date the pregnancy.

heya!yeh i am!im from the mendips, somerset!shepton mallet to be precise(i tell u this as there are towns in the same area as me that get one at 12 weeks but as i live in shepton and dont drive and my husband struggles to get time of work the only place i can go is shepton maternity unit at shepton hospital)!i dont understand either hun but i asked why at both the unit and the hospital and they said something about they dont do one(dont know why was a while ago)!i asked several midwifes and an actual dr and each said the same thing!i was given the option of the test for some reason even though i have neither of the above!IT REALLY ANNOYS ME!lol!i dont know what to do about it!

SliverCheer-thankyou for your comment!i hope all goes well for you!good luck x

I see your from the uk,Im from devon.I dont understand why they are making you wait for a scan, here we have them at 12 weeks as used as dating scan.then a further one at 20 weeks.this is done through NHS,i think you should call the antenatal department, who ever has told you this is wrong.as for the downs test this is normally given as an option if your slightly older.or they will if history of mc.

Hey I know what you mean. I had one at 6 weeks but it was too early, so 2 weeks later I had another and all I saw was a blob. The only reason I had those is because I had a blighted ovum a previous pregnancy. But my next u/s is at 20 weeks, and it has taken FOREVER!

thanks ammanda!i DONT even get one to confirm!the only one i get in my whole pregnancy is at about 20 weeks!thats the ONLY one!it ***** so badly!i can pay about £250 to have a downs syndrome one but i dont want that and dont have the money for it even if i wanted it!surely it can be dangerous for both me and the baby to not have one when i first find out to check the baby is in the right place?

yeh i agree that is stupid!surely more scans would them at even higher risk?please respond to what i said above!thank you x

Yea, here where I am they only give you one when you first find out to confirm it and then one at 20 wks and that's it. It drives me insane I want another one so bad.  It ***** that after 20 wks I cant see him again until hes born and I cant be assured that hes okay. I know exactly how you feel.  I can pay to get a 3d u/s but I don't want to.  I think they should give you another around 34 wks or so.. I read a lot on here how they don't give u many cause they can be harmful, but yet the girls who are considered high risk already get like 4 or 5 or more. I don't understand it, if there already high risk why make it worse.  I don't know nothing makes since to me. Just wanted to tell you that I understand and no how you feel.
