Need advice...pregannt on antibiotics

Hi Everyone,

Well last Sunday after four weeks of a bad cold I got a fever and had to go to the ER.  I am 19 weeks pregnant, and they diagnosed me with a severe sinus infection.  I am on amoxcillan antibiotics for 10 days.  I am a few days in and I think I am getting a yeast infection due to the side affects.  Typically, I am allergic to yeast infection treatments over the counter (monistat ect) and I only get them if I am on antibiotics.  So, docs will usually give me a pill to take orally once cure it along with my prescription.  But, since I am pregnant my OB gave me a 7 day treatment of tablets (that you insert) called Nystatin and said to only start them if I have full blown symptoms (it's getting there).

Have any of you had yeast infections while pregnant?  How did you treat it?  Any experience with allergies and taking this particular brand?  I know my OB wouldn't give me something not safe, but since I am allergic to most yeast treatments except pill form taken orally... I am so freaked out to start the treatment.  Will it go away on it's own after the antibiotics you think?  Any input would be appreciated!

They recomend eatting yogurt while on antibiotics. I use  AZO yeast it's a pill form of acidophilus. You can get it at walmart right next to the creams and inserts. My OB said it was ok to take while pregnant. You might ask your Dr if you can use that. It takes a few days longer to cure.

Well I would try it and then if you have an allergic reaction then definitely call your doc ASAP!

The prescription is from my doc. I called her this morning she said to try them and call her if they irriate me.  When I use monistat almost instantly (warning TMI) my down there swells up so bad and is so painful that is causes the skin to split because of the swelling.  I also get hives, so that is why I am scared I am sure she wouldn't give me something that would hurt the baby.

Just curious.....what kind of reaction do you have to the creams?

Hey I have never had a yeast infection while pregnant but I have read a few posts that have included such a problem... Most women use monistat or some over the counter meds... I would definitely call your doctor and explain the problem and tell them it is getting worse and stress that you are allergic to the inserts and that you feel that it could cause a reaction. Hopefully that will get the doctor to give you the oral pill rather than the inserts.
