Need urgent answers

I hope there are people on the board today.

So, I am on a medicated cycle (I took Femara) and have been having ultrasounds every other day to monitor my follicle growth, with the intent of insemination when I ovulate.

So, I went Thursday and had 2 follicles that were 16.5 each.  I went today and the nurse couldn't find these follicles and suspected that we missed ovulation.  She had me do a blood test which showed I had not ovulated, and said DH and I should come in tomorrow for insemination.  I asked her that if the blood test showed I hadn't ovulated, than where are my eggs?  She said that they've probably started the process of ovulation, but it hasn't occurred yet.

My question is, isn't insemination tomorrow too late?  I don't want to waste my time or money if it's too late.  Any advice?

Hey, you OVULATED! That is great news!!! I want to encourage you with a story of my friend (she also has a blog if you want to follow it, just PM me for it).

She had so many things working against her- a really bad uterus and uterine lining, PCOS, etc., etc. She did many IUIs. Well on her last IUI she felt it was a completely wasted cycle and the IUI didn't go as planned. She felt so incredibly discouraged. Thankfully she and DH had sex anyway.

She got her BFP two weeks later! She had no pregnancy symptoms and took the test half-heartedly thinking that it'd be negative. When she saw two bright lines she freaked out and ran out to tell her husband.

Keep your chin up! It may work; it may not. The fact you ovulated and had sex is amazing and I'm really rooting for you! Don't forget to take progesterone (demand it if your levels are below 20) if you do get pregnant.

I can't believe you see your RE every time.  Now I'm really starting to think something is wrong with my clinic.  I supposedly go to one of the bests.  Do you think it's too much to demand seeing an RE every time?

I can not believe you don't see your RE during your visits! I would probly start shopping around for a new one. My Re did all of my U/S personally, took all of my phone calls, day night or weekend! That's what they are supposed to do! Oh I hope you find some answers, but it's not like those medications, or U/S are cheap! Good luck honey!

FYI~ I had 6 failed IUI witrh my regular OB, when I finally did get my BFP it was not on an IUI cylce no meds nothing! Strait BD! So maybe this is your month and this is how it was intended, just like mine was a month b/4 our IVF proceedings! ((HUGS))

I feel like it was a wasted cycle, but DH keeps reminding me that we did BD.  So I guess that's good.  I'm still frustrated though.  Everything was going right this cycle.  Great follicles, thick lining, and then the clinic totally misses my ovulation. :-(

I want to say thanks so much for commenting girls.  I so needed the support, and I really appreciate it. :-D  Here is the update as I wrote on my blog www . iwannabeamommy . wordpress . com  (I just wrote a detailed description, so I thought I'd copy and paste) I'd appreciate your comments and thoughts about what to do next and if you think I made the right decision.  I guess I'm still second guessing myself.

DH and I woke up today and went to the clinic, and asked to speak to the nurse before we decide if we want to proceed.  Of course it was my least favorite nurse working, which didn’t surprise me as this is obviously her weekend on.  I told her my concerns.  I told her that everything I’ve read says an egg only lives for 12 to 24 hours after it is released from the ovaries.  I reminded her that as of 10am yesterday, my follicles were gone.  And that even if my progesterone wasn’t registering ovulation yet, the eggs were gone, and being that it’s 10am right now, they are most likely dead.  She said she’d go speak to the doctor quickly.  Instead of bringing the doctor in to us, she went and talked to him and came back a few minutes later.  She said she agreed with my theory, and that yes, my egg is probably dead by now.  She then said we shouldn’t give up hope because we did cover it with intercourse yesterday.  (If intercourse was working for us, do you think I’d be seeing an RE?)
I asked to have a blood test done to see if I’ve ovulated yet.  She just called me back with my levels, and yes, I have now ovulated.  The nurse said I ovulated somewhere between yesterday when I was at the clinic and now.   My guess is that I was actually in the process of ovulating at 10am yesterday when I had the ultrasound done.

I agree about the runaround.  I am beyond frustrated.

I just had DH give me the HCG shot (ouch!) and I'm going to demand to speak to someone tomorrow before we decide to go through with insemination.  It isn't cheap, and if I have no chance this cycle anyway, I don't want to waste my money.

Thanks so much for your comments. :-D

*I meant you will become dry when ovulation is over.

Well if you are still having EWCM then that means you are not done ovulating. You will become dry. My thought is that the blood test didn't pick up the progesterone and perhaps you did ovulate.

I'd go ahead and have DH give the HCG trigger shot. Then go in early tomorrow and ask to speak with a doctor before insemination because you're confused and need to see them. They shouldn't give you the runaround like this!

Thanks for the responses.  This is all so confusing!

Joy - I agree about seeing a doc every time.  I NEVER see a doctor.  I only see a nurse, and it's so frustrating.  There was a doctor on duty today who she said he would consult with, but still.

The ultrasound clearly showed that my two follicles that were 16.5 were not there, and then my progesterone level from the blood test showed 1.3, which means I have not ovulated yet.   But then. . . where the HECK were my two follicles?  I really just don't know what to do!

DH and I are supposed to go in for insemination at 10:30 am tomorrow, and neither of us is sure what to do.  I'm thinking about going in and asking to speak with a doctor before the procedure and getting his opinion.

And DH is supposed to give me the HCG trigger shot, like right now!

I can tell by my EWCM that I've either just ovulated, or am about to ovulate.  My concern is that I already ovulated based on the ultrasound, and therefore the egg would already be dead by the time of insemination tomorrow. :-(

By the way- the blood test could have been wrong... I'm not sure about all of that, though, and how long your progesterone would stay elevated during/after ovulation. Progesterone is what they test for. When you ovulate progesterone increases to about 20-25 or more if I remember correctly.

Well this is so tricky--- the blood test revealed you had not ovulated. Therefore insemination would be pointless. I would call and ask that you speak to a doctor before you come in and throw your money away for something that will 100% not work.

Now if you DID ovulate and are ovulating (do you have EWCM?!) then it's obviously worth it to go in tomorrow.

Sounds like you might need to switch practices as well. You should be seeing a fertility doctor every single time you go in--- NOT a nurse! It is against the law for her to diagnose and to plan treatment.

Hum, I don't really know. I agree with sweetangel you should call back and ask to talk to the dr before you go in. Good luck!

If the egg can live for up to what 48 hours and you ovulated sometime between thursday and today then it sounds like you could still have a chance.

I know!  I hate always seeing the nurses and not the doctor.  This is SO frustrating!

I don't have an answer BUT I would demand to talk with a fertility dr. rather than a nurse...not to sound demeaning toward the nurse but the doctor could address your concerns in a more knowledgeable way.  Good luck!
