Not gaining enough weight?

I am 31 weeks and have only gained 12lbs but I lost 4 lbs this week due to a chest cold and toothache. Should I be concerned?

Safe weight gain depends on your pre-pregnancy weight. I know that some people can safely gain less than others. I would talk to my doctor if I were you.

I think what I read is that if you are a normal, healthy weight pre-pregnancy, you should gain 25-35 pounds total, but underweight people may need to gain more, and overweight people can safely gain less. I'm just guessing from memory though, so I could be wrong.

You should only be concerned if your dr is concerned! :) weight gain depends on your pre pregnancy weight.

My sil lost 25 lbs during her second pregnancy wasnt sick with morning sickness or anything she ate 24/7. Only gained back 12 of those 25 and delivered an almost 10 lb baby! As long as you are eating you should be ok! Baby will take what it needs from your body!

It depends on your weight. I have a friend who is over weight and her dr only wanted her to gain 15 lbs max and she only gained 8 and the dr was very pleased and baby was born very healthy and very healthy weight

Thank you... Your post made me feel a little better! I was so prepared to blow up this pregnancy and haven't so that's why I am worried! Don't freak out about the 8lbs you gained... Its all worth it in the end!
Also, Thank you baby3ontheway.. Im glad to hear you had a healthy baby with only gaining 12lbs. It makes me feel much more reassured!

With my first two pregnancies I didn't gain any weight at all for 6 months, and then I gained steadily at the end. I ended up gaining 25 with both, so maybe you will be more like that.

This time I'm freaking out because I've already gained 8 pounds and I'm 17 weeks. I hope I don't pack it on at the end like with my others =)

You should be fine,it just means ur eating like you should and your body is taking it very well. With my last pregnancy i only gained 12 the who time and i still had a 7lbs baby girl.currently im 25 weeks today and have only gained 8lbs but go back and forth from that and losing 2lbs. As long as ur doctor hasnt said anything your fine, enjoy it. Good luck

It just makes me nervous to be 31+3 and only have gained 8 lbs... My first pregnancy I gained 26 lbs...  I am not overweight but not small at all... I should safely gain probably 30 lbs..Well I hope I am just speaking to soon! We will see! Thanks
