Long cycles

So, I have been online this morning researching tracking BBT, as I've decided to do this.  I found this website that is answering questions, and an expert said the following thing about long cycles. . .

It is possible to ovulate very late in a cycle -- there is not any day limit -- so a long cycle doesn?t mean there is no hope. Long cycles do, however, reduce opportunities to get pregnant and warrant looking into. It is also a good idea to have at least one cycle every 3 months, brought on by medication if needed, so that the uterine lining does not become too thick.

This bothered me, because I consider my cycles long.  (Ranging usually from 35-39 days)  So, what is meant here by a LONG cycle, and does anyone know why long cycles reduce opportunities to get pregnant?

Thanks-I find out what we are having next wednesday! YAY!!

When i went in telling them my cycles were long and well was trying to get pregnant. The first Dr. i went to was like we will give you some birth control pills and that will regulate you. I was like what??? doesnt that defeat the purpose of trying to get pregnant. He told me it would help but I told him no, no way!!!
I went to a different Dr. and she right away put me on Provera and Clomid. Provera makes you get your AF and Clomid helps you ovulate.
If i were you i would try maybe saying you have been TTC for alittle longer. Some Dr's. will be like well come back after you been TTC for a year. Then they consider it a problem. Then again your Dr. might not be the same.
I think my difficulty TTC were both. PCOS and long cycles. My body wasnt doing what it was suppose to do. I couldnt really count my CD's because i just wasnt sure what my cycle was going to be like that time around. I did but I couldnt try on the exact day, thought we did anyways. We were trying and trying ( like rabbits lol TMI)  I tried the whole put a pillow under your bottom and all this crazy stuff. I also tried the ovulating pee sticks. I was just spending to much money on them. I think you can maybe try those since your cycles are not to long (long but not to long).
Hopefully your Dr. is a nice one, maybe they can start by doing lab work and if you are worried about your lining being thick they can also do in internal Ultra sound. If they dont see things that you really need to worry about they are going to ask to have your hubby checked out. Yes that means he is going to have to give a sample (my hubby hated that part). Well keep me posted. Hope all goes well with your appointment.

Congrats on being 20 weeks!  I wish you the best of luck. :-D

I am just coming up blank on all the research I do on this.  My cycles aren't real long.  I've been off bc for 4 months, and my cycles have come every month (and they started coming right away, which was good) and they vary from 31 days to 39 days.  When I try to research info on the internet, I keep hearing that any cycle about 35 days is considered abnormal.  But then I've asked experts on this forum, and hear that everyone's cycles vary.  So, I just don't know what to believe!

I decided to make a doctor's appt, and I have it on Monday.  Either the doctor will think I'm completely over reacting for coming in after only 4 months of trying, or maybe he'll think my cycles warrant getting checked out.  I don't mind that my cycles are a little long, I really just want to know that I'm ovulating.

A question for you. . . Do you think your difficulty in ttc was due to the PCOS or the long cycles?  Or, do those maybe go hand in hand?  Thanks. :-D

Oh and this doesnt mean it will take you six years to conceive. I had a M/C in between and well your cycles dont seem as long as mine. I had about 3-4 cycles a year if i was lucky. Dont stress out to much hun, im sure everything will be fine.

It took me 6 years, im 20 weeks now. I have PCOS, and i have cycles range anywhere from 30-60 days. Yes my lining was thick, they never said that was the exact problem but when my cycles went past 2 months, they would put me on Provera to start my cycle. Now you can ovulate when ever. I dont know if you read other postings ive made but the first day of LMP was Oct 29th 2007.As of February 20th i still hadnt had a cycle. Went in that day for my yearly check and my Dr. said i think you are ovualting, was really strange for since i hadnt had a cycle in over 3 months. She said go get your thing on, every other day for the next week. If in a week you havent had your cycle take your Provera. I never did start my cycle. I started Provera March 2nd and March 6 i found out i was pregnant (lab work). So i mean yes the chances are less but you just never know. It happened to me. Good luck. I hope this helps a little.

Maybe if the lining is too thick it henders the progression of sperm getting to the fallopian tubes. That is just a guess though...I am not sure.

Wish I could be more help. :)

I thought I'd try this one again.  Just wondering if anyone has expertise why they say long cycles reduce opportunities to get pregnant.  As a woman with longer cycles, this statement worries me! Thanks. :-D
