OT: Weaning/Sippy Cups

Lexi will be 10 months old on the 9th and I've noticed that she's trying to self wean from her bottle. She'll finish her bottle at night time and early in the moring, but other than that, she'll just sip on it, maybe get 3 ounces if I'm lucky, and then she's ready to eat. I'm not exactly sure what to do about this. She begs for our food, so I oblige and give in because otherwise I'm worried that she wouldn't be getting anything. I literally tried four times to give her a bottle (four different times) and she would drink an ounce and then wiggle out of my arms and go play.

She won't take a sippy, she just bites on them. She'll drink out of an open bottle and today she walked up to my Dr Pepper can and grabbed it an started drinking before I could reach over and stop her. Are there any kinds of sippy's out there that flow at a decent rate that are more like those adult thermos things? I just don't know what to do in that department. When we go out, I have to gather water in the straw and release it into her mouth because she refuses to su.ck it through the straw. If anhyone has any suggestions as far as sippy cups go and what to do about her weaning issue, I would be so grateful!

She ate a breadstick the other night when we ordered pizza. I didn't figure she'd eat iraq, but she loved it. I hardly ever give her anything like that bc its not the best food in the world. I just don't know how or what kind of sippy to get her. She's just backwards, I guess. She drinks from a cup, but it goes everywhere. I don't know what else to do to enforce the sippy.

If she's ready for table foods totally let her eat solids. My kiddos always skipped baby food and started soft solids around 10-11 months old.

As far as the cup goes - just keep offering her drinks. She'll come around to it. I don't ever use the straw ones, just the spout ones. Works for us and I know you'll find what works for you soon!

well...you could always do what I did with Kahlan, but she was a bit older (closer to 2)...I ordered her a special cup that allows her to drink as if she were drinking from a normal adult cup..it's not spill PROOF but it's spill resistant...lemme get you the link.

totally awesome. she transitioned from that to an adult cup without batting an eyelash and with no spills (in 3 months..cross my fingers, lol). BUT..with that said...when we're on the go I still give her a sippy cup -the kind with the straw so it feels more like an adult cup- because the reflo requires a good bit of attention and care to use..so in the car and at friend's houses it's just a recipe for disaster.

With Grey we moved him right from the bottle to the kind of sippy cup that has a straw as well, and I basically just started giving it to him all the time...whenever he was playing, I put it right next to him..if he wandered off I would move it so it stayed with him...and he began to drink out of it every now and then just kinda as a thing to do...soon he was finishing it and asking for more.

i think they all chew on them for awhile but eventually they'll discover that they can control when and how much they get without your involvement if the cup is available and they'll start to like the idea lol.

Hmm ill try putting it in the fridge. She likes cold water, so we'll try that and see what happens.

the only sippy i could get my daughter started on was the avent sippy, it is really soft flexible plastic and its spout is flat like a duck beak(not round), another one i found like that was gerber brand that my sister gave it to me... now my daughter will take any kind of sippy and wont take a bottle....

i know this sounds funny but the colder the drink the more my daughter will drink... so her drinks are straight from the fridge, and in the summer when it was crazy hot i would put ice in it... sometimes if she see me with ice i will put ice in her sippy too... she really loves it

Ive tried hard spouts, soft spouts, one with a straw...just no luck. Shell drink out of a water bottle and a cup, but its so messy. She doesn't care for juice. She prefers water and formula.

Honestly I would just try to make her drink from it. Don't give her drinks from a straw, and don't use one yourself...that way she doesn't see it. (Out of sight out of mind.) Aubryana's the same way with sippy cups, she just kinda bites them, but I'm still breast feeding. I'm just continuing to try to get her to figure out the sippy cups. Have you tried different types of cups? Maybe put a tiny bit of juice in it, or something like that, so it tastes good and she'll want it more.
