Once again I'll be taking you ladies to the hospital with me...

The hospital called today and let me know that I'd officially be staying the night after I have my tubal.  During my pre-op they found more cysts on my ovaries so not only am I having my tubes tied, but they'll be going in 1st to laser the cyst then do the tubal.  That seems awfully risky to me.  I know the doctors know what they're doing but I'm starting to get really nervous.  I qualify (if you want to call it that) for a hystorectomy, but b/c of my age they're really hesitant to do it.  If it will keep me from having so many future surgeries then I say why not.  They can leave the ovaries so I wouldnt have to have hormone replacement, and put me out of my misery!

Do you guys think this is safe?  I'm starting to rethink this whole ordeal!

A friend of mine had a hysterectomy when she was in her 30's and she has had her ovaries left in so that she dosent have to have hormone replacement and she said its the best think that she ever did as she had no end of problems and said that she now feels like a total weight has been lifted off her as she no longer has to suffer with surgery, taking tablets etc.... If you are sure you arent having an more children then i say go for it!

Err---I didn't mean TOTAL hysterectomy. I was referring to the partial (leaving the ovaries) so you don't have to take hormone replacement meds.

My vote is for the total hysterectomy. If you KNOW in your heart that you are 100% done having children, go for it. You won't be miserable anymore! And why pay for multiple surgeries if you end up having to do it in the future? Plus all the recovery time of multiple surgeries.

This is coming from a woman who usually does not tell women to do this. But I really feel like it's going to be okay for you!

I had my hysterectomy just after I turned 27.  They left my ovaries in.  I am now 54 and know now that having the hysterectomy was the best thing I ever did.  I never missed all those heavy periods one bit.

Of course, the decision totally rests with you.  It IS major surgery and it does take a while to recover.  Mine was done through a full abdominal incision.  Today, my scar is not even visible.

Best of luck no matter what you decide.  One thing is for sure, I don't have to worry about cervical cancer, even though I still get paps every three years.
