I agree, it's more like an unpaid vacation, my husband gets unpaid paternity leave, but he's taking it anyway!!

Paternity leave is like nonexistent with most employers. Also taking vacation can be costly because some employers only do like 75% pay during vacation. But his hr should beable to answer all your questions.
He has to go to his human resources person. He can file for fmla, but they do not pay. 99% of work places do not offer paternity leave so vacation is his best bet.
Have him call his HR department. I think its called FMLA or something like that - family medical leave; etc. But either he needs to talk to his boss or better to deal with the human resources.
