When they asked me for both my children I said no. Even if the test came back positive for down syndrome I wouldn't love my kids any less an with all the risks of it I find it pointless.

I opted out of ALL genetic testing. Simply because my baby is going to be the light of my life no matter what . This may be the only baby I have ever so any genetic abnormalities mean nothing to me. I will love him or her all the same<3

Theres a risk of miscarriage  so unless you have a medical reason I wouldnt do it. My sister was high risk and had to have it done. They ended up telling her that my niece would have down syndrome and she wouldnt live past 6 months because she was going to have a number of other medical issues. They told her to terminate the pregnancy and gave her a refferal. She went to terminate her pregnancy but the facility she went to couldnt do it so she had to go to a different facility 3 hra aways but decided to keep the baby and cherish the time she had with my niece. Guess what my niece will be 10 next week has no medical issues shes as healthy as can be.  Sorry for the long story but I thought I would share this story, some of these test just end up scaring us mithers for no reason.

Ive read a lot of different things on it, if the doctor doesn't do it exactly perfectly you can have a miscarriage. Atleast that is what I have heard. I chose not to do it for the fact that I wss having complications and I was scared to death to do anything to possibly make me lose the baby. If you don't want to, later in your pregnancy I believe at 16-18 weeks you can have testing done from your blood from your arm instead of from the amniotic fluids. I know there is a lot of controversy on the amniocentesis testing and whether it is safe or not. And those tests are not all 100% accurate. I have known people to get the amniocentesis or the blood draw and come up positive for things and be scared and stressed for the rest of the pregnancy, only to have a perfectly normal baby in the end! Its quite common for those tests to be wrong! (My sister in law has 8 kids and a few of them were positive for down syndrome! But after birth they were all perfectly normal!)

There is a small risk of miscarriage so I refuse to do it unless it's medically necessary for checking lung maturity if I go into early labor or need to be induced early. They may offer it to you to check for Down Syndrome but before you do that, do the blood test and see if there's even a small chance. The results of the tests when positive are also commonly false positives so I don't want a huge needle in my stomach unless I am high risk or in early labor. I don't do needles lol
