Fetal position and how it relates to movement

I'm 30 weeks pregnant.  At my last OB appointment, he indicated that the baby is already head down.

This baby hasn't been as active so far as DS was overall - he really made his presence known with a lot of kicking and jabbing....especially later into the evening.  With this baby, I've noticed that the movements are more subtle...more like rolling or shifting...I usually have to pay close attention to notice them.

So far, everything has been going well so it's not that I'm "worried" - I know that each pregnancy and baby is different.  I'm still feeling movement and regularly....it's just not like kickboxing ;-)

Today, I was laying on the bed and instead of turning to the side and rolling off (as I've started to do now that I'm getting bigger), I just sat up, like doing a curl up....and I noticed the distinct outline of what looked to me like my baby's back!  I showed DH later and he agreed with me that that's what it looked like.

So I guess what I'm getting at is...is it possible that the movements feel different - more sublte, less vigorous jabbing - because the baby is turned towards my stomach, facing my back?

Thank you :-)  Don't worry - you'll be feeling movements in another couple of weeks, probably!  With my first, I wasn't sure that what I was feeling was the baby until closer to 20 weeks - this time, I felt him/her at 14 weeks....just because I knew what it felt like.

i really have no for sure answer on this one as this is my first pregnancy but what you've suggested seems to make the most sense to me. lots of women who carry their pregnancys toward the back of their uterus's dont feel kicks at all. so if babies legs and arms are faced toward your back im guessing you wouldnt feel as much becuz babies little butt and back are next to the surface (and those obviously wouldnt wiggle as much) :) im sure everything is just fine and congrats on being 30 weeks!! im only 16 weeks...urrgh im still waiting for a first kick! lol
