okay now im really worried about ariana

i know i might sound overly worried here but me and DH just got over the stomach bug..and today ariana has been projectile vomiting almost her entire feedings. it started this afternoon around 11 she threw up so much it went past the burp cloth she was on to the bed and even landed on me...and continued to throw up until she was screaming from being so hungry...finally fed her again and she's doing the same thing she just projectile vomited probably 3 times in the past 15 minutes...not including the little spit ups. it was coming out of her nose. now shes just kinda laying on the bed acting like she's exhausted. idk whats wrong with her. i took her temp and its good..98.4. i placed a call to the doctor but he is out of town so i had to call the nurse (we know him personally; i wish he was here..)...but it was like 4:58 when i called so i have a feeling i missed them..
i dont wanna call after hours unless its necessary. should i be worried? she just keeps spitting up like 90% of what i feed her.

thanks girls! were home now and she is doing a lot better..im glad she didn't need an iv too because that would have hurt her so bad. i can't imagine how they do that to little babies, i can't even see her veins. anyway she's keeping a lot of pedialyte down so we're tryin a tiny bit of formula at a time! hopefully she'll sleep better tonight; im exhausted. but she seems much happier. :) right now she's just chillin on the boppy pillow lovin all the attention she's gotten. ;)

an IV is intravenous fluids. A drip of liquids into the vein. Dont feel stupid,it is always best to ask questions. That is what we are here for.

thanks yall!! right now were in the er and they wanna watch her for a few hours...when she proves she can hold down her fluids then they will send us home.. but they dont want to give her any i.v because the doctor here said its better to let her stomach work and i.v's are painful unless they're necessary...which right now they said she looks fine she's not dehydrated so its not needed.
she sucked down over 2 oz and then just spit it up all over me so now they want me to give her a 1/4 of an ounce and then wait five minutes and give her another 1/4 to see if she'll keep it down and if she spits that up then she'll get an i.v. thanks for the thoughts and prayers ill keep yall posted!

i hope Ariana's okay and you get a diagnosis.  My nephew had pyloricstinosis (not sure how to spell it)  a small operation sorted his problem and he was fine.  My second nephew was the same and my sister changed his formula 4 times it was only when he was almost a year old he eventually stopped when she put him on a heavier, thicker milk.  I know you can't do that as Ariana is so small but hopefully someone will be able to help you get to the bottom of the issue.  I wish you loads of luck

I'm sorry you are going through this.  Taking her to the ER is the best thing though.  It's most likely just a virus.  Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Are you taking her in?? its better to be safe than sorry, she has probably picked up your stomach bug, Im not 100% on this, but I dont think there immune systems are very strong for the first year, I know one of my brothers isnt, he's just recently had Pnemonia straight after meningitus ( Sorry for my appauling spelling) But its best to get her checked out and things, Like I said she may have picked up your stomach Bug.

I Hope she gets better..

Good Luck

well she did okay throughout the night last night and i didn't think we were going to have to take her in but she started spitting everything back up again this morning so i called the ped again and he said shes too young to be doing this this long so we have to take her to the hospital to get i.v's. and tests done.. poor baby..please pray she'll feel better!!

If she can't keep the pedialyte down I would take her to the ER. It won't take long for a baby that young to dehydrate and have more complications. With newborns, I never risk anything, whether the PED said to give her pedialyte or not, I would have grabbed a bottle on the way to the ER.

I would also take her temp rectally, especially if you think she is pale, usually paleness is a sign of fever, and if she is feverish do not bundle her up, keep her in just a diaper.

well check your gums and hers should be about the same color as yours...yeah that's probably why it was clear it was probably mostly bile...I would say if she's not keeping anything down you should call his cell and make sure you don't need to go ahead and take her in.

ugh she just spit up the most recent pedialyte we gave her...but it was clear spit up..i guess cause she doesn't have formula in her system anymore?

im not sure i think he'll call back in a few minutes..he said he had to go into a meeting but that he would call me periodically and for me to call his cell if she appeared to get worse.
im sure he gave me more specific instructions than im remembering...of course. i would do that.

I'm not sure...I would say that as long as she's accepting liquids continue to offer them every few minutes, or at least every half hour or so...I mean if she falls asleep I would say let her sleep for a bit, wake her to take 5-10ml whichever she's willing to take, and then let her sleep more...when is your doctor going to call back? You should ask for a more specific instruction from him so you can be sure she's getting enough.

keep an eye on her gums. really pale gums can indicate dehydration!

she took the liquid from a syringe, but she would only swallow a few drops at a time so she spit out a good bit and we had to give her a little bit more...the doctor said to start at 5 mL and then 10 if she kept that down. she is pale and acts tired but i wouldn't classify it as listless..when should i try the 10 mL?

it is, and I totally understand...my daughter had vomiting issues at like 1 1/2 months due to formula switching, but I had NO idea what was causing it and I was in a panic...my pediatrician did the same thing, called every hour or two until she was keeping things down and stable....you've got a good team on your side. you can always try freezing the pedialyte and holding the frozen cube of it (they also sell pedialyte frozen pops) for her to suck on if she won't drink the liquid on it's own....hang in there honey and just keep an eye on her if she becomes too listless or pale I would call your ped instantly or take her in but otherwise seeing if she can down the pedialyte and taking her in if she can't is a good course of action.

Good luck sweetie try to stay calm :)

yeah i just received a call back from her pediatrician..im surprised he must have just gotten back in town but im very thankful...and he said to start out seeing if she'll get pedialyte down...and he's going to call me back several times throughout the night to find out how she's taking it and if she can't keep it down then she will need an iv. thanks so much for your quick response..its hard not to panic.

I agree with Ashelen, my younger brother had the stomach flu at 4 months old and was doing the same thing, we took him to the ER for fluids and everything was fine. Its better to take her to the ER just in case, if she's been spitting up that badly they will most likely give her fluids and do a couple other tests to see if she has a bug and what not.

I want to add that there's a very good chance that she's fine....but if she's unable to keep down most of her food, dehydration can set in fairly fast so you want to just be on the safe side. don't panic, but I would take her in if I were you.
