Poppy seeds?!

It just dawned on me that maybe they weren't good while pregnant. I ate two small almond poppy seed muffins last night because I've been craving them like crazy. Apparently though scary google says that they can cause birth defects and miscarriage while pregnant, especially in your third trimester. What have I done?!

Okay, I googled and researched hardcore and I love the Livestrong website and found this....
Although poppy seeds usually contain only trace amounts of opiates, even a small amount can cause a false-positive urine drug test for up to 48 hours following ingestion. Opiates such as codeine could potentially be dangerous during pregnancy and can affect the baby's breathing during the last trimester. Drugs.com notes that it is most likely that the poppy seeds consumed in food are safe for pregnancy, but complete information is lacking regarding the safety of use while expecting. The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment reports that women should avoid poppy seeds while pregnant because of their connection to drugs, but also because some types of poppy seeds are highly contaminated during the growing and harvesting process. Contaminated poppy seeds may pose a danger to you and to your unborn baby because of their high morphine content. While contaminated poppy seeds may be dangerous, most poppy seeds are unlikely to be contaminated. Limited consumption may be considered safe during pregnancy, such as on bagels, but it may be helpful to discuss with your doctor or another medical professional before consuming any poppy seeds while you are pregnant.

In most cases that's true but since every woman reacts to it differently, reacts to everything differently, it can cause the bad stuff with just a little bit depending on the woman.

You have to eat a ton of poppy seeds for them to be bad, or for them to show up on a drug test.

Yeah upon more research it seems like you have to eat a lot for it to be bad. But all women react to it differently so I don't know...
