Umbilical Cord - I think I'm paranoid! Haha

DS's umbilical cord is starting to fall off and there's a tiny bit of blood underneath it, and as it's falling off more and more there is a little bit of blood on his shirt. Is it normal for there to be bleeding or blood underneath the umbilical cord as it falls off??

It's normal, just put some drops of alcohol so it completely dries off. That's what my dr. told me with my girls. It worked like a charm! Yeah I understand is worrisome and kinda icky...lol...but if the baby had pain or something IT WOULD LET YOU KNOW...lol...

I know exactly what you're talking about and although it is scary looking (especially when it is literally hanging on by one thread) it is normal. Some signs that it might not be normal- funky smell, green discharge. Blood and a shiny appearance are definitely normal. It should dry up real fast and heal after that last bit falls off (but definitely don't pull it off, as tempting as that may be). I bet it'll fall off within the next 3 days.

Its normal as long as its not alot. I dont remember there being blood with my first two babies but my last had a bloody mess for a few days and it scared the **** out of me, lol. My peds told me its normal and for it even to bleed for a few days after it has fallen off. Keep it dry and clean:)

It's ALMOST off, it's barely hanging on there, and I keep noticing some brownish/reddish blood on his t-shirt, not a TON just a little bit, like it rubbed off onto his shirt. Also it doesn't look like it's dried up, it also doesn't look wet, but it isn't completely dry, is THAT normal? UGHHHH newborn babies are so stressful, I can't wait until his umbilical cord and plastibell fall off, then I won't worry as much!

They do ooze and can look worrisome. Give it some time!
