Post-Miscarriage Problems???

Last month (approximately between May 27 and June 2) I had a miscarriage at only 3 weeks pregnant. I had severe pain, cramping and bleeding, and spent my day in the Observation until at the hospital. I was told that I had likely had the miscarriage several days before the pain began, and that my body was simply getting rid of anything left in my uterus. This was my first pregnancy, and although unplanned, it wasn't unwanted. It took me a full week to build up an appetite and feel 'normal' again. I had light bleeding throughout the following week, light cramps, and constant nausea. I finally began to feel back to my old self about halfway through June, but then on the 14, I didn't get my period. (Note: I always get my period at the same time every month. Its always exactly 28 days after the end of the last cycle.)  I've waited and waited, but nothing has come. I'm starting to worry, and to make it even worse, feel sick and bloated again. This isn't the kind of cramps/bloating/mood swings I get with PMS, this is more like a food poisoning feeling. I'm more concerned about the fact that my period is late than being sick, and its been floating around in my head that I might be pregnant again, although the chances are practically zero. My boyfriend and I don't use condoms (latex allergy) and I can't take birth control because I'm anaemic, but we're always careful not to have him finish inside of me. (sorry to be so graphic, couldn't think of any other way to put it) I know there is a slim chance of pregnancy in that scenario, but its never been an issue before.
Is my late/missing period caused by my miscarriage? Or should I buy another home-test kit?

it took me 7 weeks to get my period back after my first MC.  i am sorry for your loss.  i had 2 of them and know just how you feel.  if you do not get your period back after 6 weeks, you can call the doctor and maybe get an appointment just to make sure your body expelled everything and or maybe you could be pregnant again.  many women on this forum got pregnant again after a MC without even having a period,

I would follow up with the doctor to make sure your HCG levels are back to being negative for pregnancy, to make sure all the tissue is out.  It can take 4-8 weeks to get your period back (or longer, like me).  Good luck!

Yes, my doctor said it can take between 4-8 weeks before you get your next cycle, and of course if your using no protection it increases chances of preganacy becuase you can also get preggo from pre-***.  It might help if you get some literature from your ob doc regarding preganacy and m/c.  I had my first child at 19 and really didnt have a clue of what was going on.  Now that im 32 i have a better concept of what to expect.  Also you can always goggle stuff online.  This is also a good forum because a lot of women have been threw many experiences and can give good advice, info etc., there is almost something new i learn every week by chating and reading these forums.  Im anemic my self and i take an iron pill every day, when i got preggo i took iron pill and prenatal because my iron levels were still low.  Let us no how things go with your doc when you have next appt.

Well, it could be both.  I was like you, always had a 28 day cycle, but I have had 2 miscarriages and my cycles have never returned to my normal.  But, if your miscarriage was completed more than 8 weeks ago, you should return to your doctor.  Hopefully, they followed up after your miscarriage to check to make sure that your hCG level fell below 5.

On the otherhand, since you are not using protection, there is a chance that you are pregnant.  You might want to consider taking a pregnancy test.  If you are anemic, are you taking a pre-natal or an iron supplement?  If you are anemic, this could pose problems in pregnancy.  So, you might want to consider taking a pre-natal vitamin "just in case" ;)

If you miscarry, your cycle is not going to carry on the way it did as if the miscarriage never happened. It can take months to get back on track, and some people even ovulate 2 weeks after a miscarriage, as if the miscarriage was like a period.
So there is a chance your body is taking it's time to get back on track, but also a chance that you could be pregnant again if you do not use any protection.
Let us know what happens!
