I was given Acylovir between 8-10 weeks in 1987, during my first pregnancy. It was the high dose for 5 days that was commonly used at that time for the initial infection. I did not know I was pregnant at the time and my GYN didn't check until my follow-up visit. At that time, he was very concerned about birth defects as there was little information available re: Acylovir use and early pregnancy. I can tell you that my son was born perfectly healthy. I do not know the statistics available for that being the case but he was just fine. I hope it helps.
if its similar to valtrax then your perfectly safe, if your herpes flares up often then you may (if you havent already) have your doctor perscribe a daily regimine of valtrax to avoid outbreaks during the whole pregnancy, because im sure you know, if you are having an outbreak when you go into labor you will have to have a c-section
good luck
and i was taking valtrax during my whole pregnancy with my first baby, shes perfectly healthy
Actually, acyclovir can still be prescribed during pregnancy. I just read a report that of 311 births after exposure to acyclovir during the first trimester, no increase in birth defects were report. I think you and your baby will be fine.
