Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Hello Everyone.  Boy, am I glad I found this site…

Well, my name is Missy and I have a 7 month old baby.  I’ve been breastfeeding and I haven’t had a period since after I delivered my son.  Well, I just found out that I am 13 weeks pregnant!  I can’t believe it because I had all the symptoms of pregnancy with my son – nausea, headaches, tiredness, etc.  I noticed that past few months that my baby was not nursing that good, and actually the past few days he has refused me a couple of times.  Could the pregnancy hormones be passing though my milk and changing the taste?

Any information would be a great help.

Thank you everyone.

You might get more traffic if you post this question on the breastfeeding forum...  I've been nursing my son and he's 9 months.  I'm not practicing any form of birth control but know I'm not pregnant (I just took a hpt the other day - BFN).  I have heard that the mother's milk can be negatively affected by being pregnant.  Congrats and good luck!

Yes, it can change the taste of your milk. Some babies really don't like it, others don't really care.  I also got pregnant while nursing, and eventually my milk dried up.  My baby was 16 months old by then, so it wasn't much of an issue.  You might have more of an issue since your baby is only 7 months old.  Has he been gaining weight consistently and having plenty of wet diapers?  I would really pay attention to that.  Keep nursing of course, but you may end up having to supplement with formula if your milk supply drops too much.  Or if your baby is self weaning due to the taste.  Is it possible for you to make an appointment with his pedi to discuss these issues?
