oh, so you haven't had an ultrasound yet?  THATS why you didn't hear the heartbeat.

I didn't understand the difference between hearing the heartbeat on a dopplar & hearing it on an ultrasound either. It had to be explained to me.

ultrasound = 6-8 weeks along
dopplar = 10-12 weeks
usually this is the case.  some women it takes longer.

don't worry about symptoms too much.  mine come & go too.

best wishes!

What was she using to look for a heartbeat?  The dopplar that is placed on top of the abdomen picks up fetal heartbeats between 10-12 weeks. (usually)

An ultra sound can detect a heartbeat beginning at 6 weeks.  usually 6-8.  Although, I THINK in the early weeks a transvaginal ultra sound needs to be used to get a heartbeat before 9 weeks, not real sure.

Perhaps you are off a week or so.  Was an ultrasound done?  was anything seen?
did the nurse use a dopplar on the stomach?  if so I think it would be normal to not hear a heartbeat.

It all depends on how the heartbeat was looked for.  It is also common for symptoms to come & go.  How did the nurses & doctors act?
