Pregnancy

I know I should know the answer to this but I guess I need some clarification so.. When can a woman get pregnant? is it only during her ovulation? which from what i know is around the exact middle of her menstrual cycle about 14, 15 days after her period? or is that incorrect?..

My doctor told me to start counting from the first day of your period 12, 14 and 16 days... and those are the days you should TTC with your partner... you normally ovulate around day 14 but like Clysta said above... not all women do so that's why my OBGYN told me to have sex on day 12, 14 and 16.

While women with a regular cycle of 28 days are supposed to ovulate on day 14, not all do. You usually ovulate 2 weeks before your next period. You can only get pregnant while your body is ovulating, otherwise there's nothing to fertilize. But, because sperm can last in a female for up to 7 days, if you had unprotected sex on the days leading up to ovulation you could still get pregnant. That said, there is never a safe time for unprotected sex.
