Pregnant with cats/kittens

I have been around cats/kitten sicne I was little. But now that my daughter has a kitten, it worries me because she and I now have ringwrom, which isnt really what is worring me, I am now 30 wks and I have touched the cat some but I have hear the cats/kitten can carry toxoplasmosis in their poo and the kitten had, had diarrhea and would go where ever it was at, and it had got on it fur, I am just worried about the toxoplasmosis. Is there any sign of having it? And how harmful can it be while pregnant?

A vet can test your cats for toxoplasmosis and your doctor can test you for it.

Handling cat feces will  not result in transmission of toxoplasmosis - you have to actually INGEST the feces........ yuk!

I agree with April2. Most likely you've been exposed long ago. It does come from feces, not the urine. If you're truly concerned then bring it up to your doctor! They'll let you know what needs to be done, if anything.

My vet said toxoplasmosis is actually very rare and you usually only see it in outside cats. She was pregnant the whole time she practiced medicine and handled many cats. However, it is advised to not change the cat box while you're pregnant or if you're the only one who can then to use gloves and wash hands very well afterwards. If you live with someone who can change the cat box (like your husband) then have them do it while you are pregnant.
Ringworm is not the same as toxoplasmosis but if it will make you feel better there actually is a test your vet can do on the cat to check to see if it is carrying this. If you've been around cats all your life then you may have been exposed a long time ago and are probably safe then.
This is all what my own vet told me. Hope that helps!

No toxoplasmosis does comes from the cats poop not their pee. There are parasites in the poop that wouldn't make a regular person sick but can make a pregnant women very sick. I am pretty sure that you can become immune to it..and since you have been around cats your whole live you may have already ingested a parasite at one time that your body faught off. Look into it more and google it...but I would say be careful around the cat if you do touch her or pet her wash your hand Right after...and get a scrubber for underneath fingernails to keep them clean too. You can never be to careful.Don't change the litter box!!

toxoplasmosis. can be very harmful when pregnant!! You would be very sick if you had it...light headed ness...headach,,.blurred vision!! Alot of different symptoms....Pregnant women are highly advised to stay away from cat litter when pregnant becasue i think it comes from there pee!! Not there poo..but just the same,,,you should stay away from her "stuff" lol...and cats carry ringworm too..that needs to be checked as well as your cat..cause it can spread like crazy,,,i caught it a few months ago and its still coming back!! YOu need cream to get it to go away!! I would take the kitten to the vet and get her checked out for ringworm..she may need cream as well!! If you think you might have toxoplasmosis you need to get checked asap!! Good luck,,,Keep us posted! I hope i helped a little!
