Premature babies?

Hi every one, just looking for support and advice. So this is my second pregnancy, I have a wonderful 2 year old daughter. I'm currently 26weeks pregnant with a little boy. My daughter was born at 35weeks, and was perfectly fine. However, because of a lot of different medical problems right now, I am expected to go into labor between 30-34weeks. I'm very nervous, my cervix is softening already, and my doctor said its shortening as well. I'm on light bed rest at this point, probably full bed rest soon. But they still don't think they will be able to stop this. So my question is, what do I expect with a baby possible born at 30weeks - 34weeks. I will also have an appointment with the following specialists soon high risk obgyn, pediatrician, head neo-natal nurse. But I'm trying to get information on my own and from other mothers. So any advice or comments would be appreciated, I'm so terrified right now!

Ya maybe both is a good idea. I know If I'm pumping all the time, the manual one would be hard. I will defiantly look around. I know breast feeding will be so important because he will be a premie.

I bought an electric with my first, the medela double pump. It works great! I also bought the medela manual pump for when I am out somewhere where I can't use my electric or just to relieve myself if I get too full. I actually think sometimes I get more out with the manual than with the electric, but it definitely gives your arm a work out. lol I would just search around and see what you can find.

I had an electric, which I loved while it lasted. I pumped ALOT and wore it out pretty quickly. It was a gerber. I would get an electric and possibly a back up one just to be safe.

Wow ladies all your stories are very encouraging, at this point I feel like labor is coming, I feel like I did about a month before I had my daughter, I feel pressure and low tummy cramps all the time, then a few times a day, I get a bad cramp, wraps around from my tummy to my back. Hoping he will hold of though, I go in for an U/S tuesday to see if my cervix is funneling. Hopefully not! And I will defiantly have a pump before he is born, I wasn't able to breast feed my daughter, but I want him to at least have whatever little milk I can, hopefully ill be able to make lots! Would you ladies recommend an electric? Single or double? I tried a manual pump, didn't like it much. Do the electric work better?

I would definitely recommend getting a pump. If baby has to stay in the NICU, you will want to be able to pump and supply baby with your milk.
And you never know, you could go full term if you stay on bedrest, I was told at 32 weeks I was definitely in labor and going to have my baby that day. I was 4cm (started dilating at 27-28 weeks, very thin cervix and 80% effaced) and thankfully they were able to stop it and I had my son at 36 weeks. I was put on strict bedrest at week 28 and stay dilated all that time, but he stayed put. But with all the medical advances these days, I'd say your baby will be just fine if born between 30-34 weeks.

I would reccomend a breast pump aswell as some storage bags. I pumped and stored a ton of milk. If they have him/her in the NICU they will want to use your milk too. I found it was the same as raising a newborn. All except for the size, ofcourse.

I had a premie at 32 weeks, 13 yrs ago. He did wonderfully, and only stayed in for 2 weeks and came home.
Medical has really advanced since then. I think you and your baby will be just fine.
With my daughter I was expected to have early, went into preterm labour, it stopped and ended up having to be induced at 41 weeks. Dont be so certain that this preg will end up the same way. You can be dialated for months and still have a full term baby.
Best of luck.

Also I'd like to know if there is anything special that I should have for a premature baby, one of those motion sensitive monitors? I'd like to breast feed, should I invest in buying a pump? Any thing at all that will help me take care of a premie when I am able to take him home?
