Provera effects on fetus

I took a home pregnancy test which was negative before starting Provera for 10 days to start my period.  It's been 10 days since the last pill & still no period so I took a pregnancy test & I'm pregnant.  I must have been pregnant when I started.  Does anyone know of a study which shows birth defects are greater when the fetus is exposed to Provera?  My gynocologist said it's completely fine & it happens all the time & they used to actually use Provera as a pregnancy test years ago.  Then I saw someone post a comment that said they stopped using it as a pregnancy test b/c it causes birth defects.  Any proof of this???

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.  I'm 4 weeks pregnant & afraid that I may have harmed my baby.

Angelbaby970,
How is your wife.  We are going through the same thing right now.  We just found out we are five weeks along, after taking the Provera three weeks ago (after a negative pregnancy test).

Hi, I want to know if provera could harm a fetus. I am about 5 weeks pregnant and i took 10mg tablet before bedtime  for 10 days then a tablet 3 times a day for 2 days.

I agree, there are no health problems especially that early in pregnancy... Provera AND I think Plan B both are forms of hormonal BC. And if your already pregnant It won't bring on a period and it won't cause an abortion.

This early on, and because you stopped taking it promptly, your little one will be just fine! I know someone who was on Depo Provera for 8 months before she even found out she was pregnant (she went into labor and had no idea she was pregnant). The only issue was a low birthweight baby (he was a tiny thing). But that was after taking it throughout her entire pregnancy, unknowingly.

A little over a week of it won't do anything.

Congrats!
