Question about blood type and RH- ..

Okay, so I research pretty much all the time and I've ran across information about RH- and how that will fight off the baby and so forth.  I also believe I read that if you are A Negative that you more than likely have the Rh- as well.. I haven't had any blood drawn at my dr's office yet, they don't do it till your 16 weeks so they can do it all at once, I asked why I didn't have it done yet and thats what the Nurse had told me.. well anyway I gave blood a few months ago before I got pregnant and I found out I am A Negative, I was wondering if the information I read was correct and that I more than likely have this RH- factor or what..if anyone has any information I would love it hear it, I just want to be as educated as possible..

It certainly wouldn't hurt to mention it.....and if you're really worried you could just call the nirse at the office and she/he could give you more info. on it......that's what they are there for...and I think it would set your mind at ease some....Although lots of women who are Rh- have healthy pregnancies...Let us know how you make out and what info. you get.....

Oh wow, this is kind of scary.. should I be worried that they don't do any blood work until around 16 weeks?? Should I bring it up to the dr that I am A - at my next appointment???

I believe that if you are Rh- then the father has to be tested as well.....I can't remember details but if the father is Rh+ it's not a raise for concern....Sorry  don't have more info. but I remember asking when I was pregnant and that was what I was told...we didn't have to proceed though (w/ having my husbands blood type checked) due to a miscarriage.....I'd be curious to know if you find more details though.

I do not remember my blood type, but it you are A Negative, they will give you a rhogam shot right around 24 weeks I think.... They give you one while your pregnant, and right after you have the baby..... It is just in case something happens and your blood mixes with the baby's blood, it won't harm the baby..... If you don't get the shot, and something like that were to happen, it could make you or your baby very sick...... If there is anything else you'd like to know about feel free to ask. I went through it with all 3 of my pregnancies.....

I am RH-, but for the life of me do not remember what my blood type is. They gave me my rogham shot at about 16 weeks and then after I delivered. But I know that neither of my kids had to have the shot at birth because they did not carry the RH- factor, which meant they have their fathers blood type and not mine. There is a book I had with my first that was all about being rh - . I will see if I still have it and what it says, I know this doesn't really help, but the dr told me that since I am RH-, I am automatically put as a high risk pregnancy, but it did not effect either of my pregnancies, except I had to sit on a pillow for about a week after the shots, cause they hurt big time!
