Question about my friend

My friend Sandra, is almost 29 weeks pregnant and just got back from the doctor today and only gained 4 lbs during the whole pregnancy so far. Now I know everybody is different, but by now shouldn't she have gained a bit more weight? She was normal weight to start off with. Her doctor is concerned because her belly is only measuring 27cm from top to bottom and that at her last ulrasound, the doctor said the baby is very long and if she doesn't gain weight then the baby might come early because there will be no more room in there. I know for some, once you hit 30 weeks the weight comes on faster...but I'm not sure in this case. Also she is 23 years old, not sure if that makes a difference. I'm just wondering and a bit concernced. I've never been pregnant before, so I don't know a whole lot on it. Also last year she was pregnant with twins, but lost them at 5 months...so that might be why the doctor is more concerned with developement. Also her glucose test came back at 129 and her cut off was 130, so I guess it might be hard for her to gain and watch sugar intake.

Thanks everybody.

She lost the twins because her body was too weak because she has endometrious (sp?). She is eating healthy, taking long walks and stuff. I just wanted to make sure she and the baby will both be good. She told me she was 9lbs 2 ounces and 22 inches long at birth...so its not a shocker if her daughter is that long too. She's been through allot and I just want her to have the best. Also the father of the baby wants nothing to do with her and the baby....so everybody just wants to make sure she is heatlhy.

For someone of average weight prepregnancy a total weight gain of 25-35 lbs is considered normal/adequate however, as you said, every woman and every pregnancy is different.

The measurements of 27 cm and her being 29 weeks really isn't a big cause for concern becuase measurements can be off by up to two weeks either way.  She could easily catch up measurement-wise by her next appt.

Is she eating healthy?  She should be eating several, small, well balanced meals along with healthy snacks.  The sugar intake isn't what she need to be concerned with, she doesn't want to gain unhealthy weight.  She needs to gain weight from healthy, nutritious foods.

Do you know the reason why she lost the twins?  Depending on that reason it could have something to do wtih the doctors concern.

If she was of average weight it shouldn't really be that big of a deal. I'm only 5'4 and weighted 108 lbs before pregnancy and am now 27 weeks and have only gained like maybe 8-9 lbs total. My first trimester I lost weight due to morning sickness and I am just starting to put it back on. Also, from previous experience, its usually once you hit 30 weeks that you start packing it on. I gained 0 weight my last pregnancy until about 6 months.
