Questions to ask a midwife

I have my first midwife appointment today and I'm super nervous. I wasn't satisfied with my OB and hospital experience with my daughter, but DH won't let me do a homebirth. He's agreed to meet with a midwife before making a final decision on whether or not he'll agree to a midwife assisted hospital birth.

I'm scared I'll be turned down because of my losses, endo and fibroids, but I'm hoping I won't be. I still haven't cancelled my OB appointment for tomorrow, just in case.

I'm just wondering, what sort of questions should I ask the midwife this afternoon?

Oh questions to ask would be:  How would you handle a high risk pregnancy or an emergency if one occured?  Would you be delivering the baby or would a doctor assist you?  How many years have you been in the field?  How do you view medication or c-sections (you never know, you may need one...and some midwifes may be not willing to do one)?

Also you may want to find a hospital you do like.  We have a few in our area; two larger ones and one small one.  I ended up choosing the small one (again I wasnt high-risk).  It offered private recovery rooms and a more intimate nursing staff....which by the way I thought they werent too up to par....but considering other hospitals they were better.

i cant think what to ask her but just wanted to say that midwifes are highly trained and know what they are doing here midwifes delever all the babies doc only step in if something is relly wrong so if you are happer with your midewife than thats the way to go good luck

I had a midwife, but she was more of the doctor type (allows meds).  She delivered my baby at the hospital.  It was no problem at all.  But I had no complication throughout my entire pregnancy.  The medical group I went through also had an OB, that would handle any high-risk pregnancies.  So maybe you can find an office like that to make DH feel better about the whole thing.  On a side note: I trusted my midwife almost more than any doctor.  She had been in the field for 20 years and also understood the womens perspective.
