I know, i am weaning off the seroquel, and would have been off the clonazepam by now if the seroquel wouldnt have screwed me up so bad but i have been on a controlled taper with my doctor and will hold my doseage till i find some relief in a new medication. The seroquel was awful. just awful.
There are some medications that are safe to take during pregnancy.. But most dr's will tell you don't just stop the medication cold turkey.. You have "wein" yourself off of them..Especially when your pregnant.....
My husband has bipolar disorder and seroquel and zoloft were awful for him (and me!!) If a medication is not working, and your psychiatrist is not listening, find a new doctor. My husbands first doctor was not listening to him and treated him like dirt so we got a new one and are very happy with him.
Some antipsychotic and ssri medications are "safe" to take during pregnancy (meaning benefits outweigh the risks), but from what I have read seroquel may not be one of them. I would start by finding a new doctor.
I know how hard it is to find a medication that works, as I have been through it many times with my husband. It will probably be even harder during pregnancy.
I see you are from Marion IA. I am in Hiawatha. If you would like to know the name of the psychiatrist my husband sees let me know and I will PM it to you!!
Good luck!!
You shouldn't really be taking anti-depressants, or more importantly , something as heavy as an anti-psychotic like seroquel while you are pregnant.. Sounds to me like you don't need Seroquel anyway, if you are bi-polar.. But i'm no psychiatrist myself.... Find a new doctor is all I can say, and does your ob/gyn know about these medications/your condition? talk to him/her about it and see what they say.
