Reglan: Black box warning? Important information.

Hello. I thought I would give you ladies some information I've just read about the drug Reglan. I thought it would be important because I've read that several women have been given this drug to increase Milk production.

With the recent Black Box warning:
"Feb. 27, 2009 -- The FDA has ordered a "black box" warning, the FDA's strongest warning, for drugs that contain metoclopramide, which is used to treat gastrointestinal disorders.

The boxed warning will highlight the risk of tardive dyskinesia, or involuntary and repetitive movements of the body, with long-term or high-dose use of metoclopramide, even after the drugs are no longer taken.

Drugs that contain metoclopramide include Reglan tablets, Reglan oral disintegrating tablets, metoclopramide oral solution, and Reglan injection. More than 2 million Americans use these products, according to the FDA."

Have any of you ladies taken this drug during or after pregnancy? I'm curious as to if this drug has an effect on the developing Fetus, and on the infant seeing as how it has such a negative effect on so many who have taken it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I feel it's important to share this information, because so many women were not aware of it's possible side effects prior to use.

I took Reglan for nausea when I was pregnant, I stopped after the third dose b/c of how jerky and restless it made me, the feeling was horrible. I layed on the couch with my husband sitting on my legs to try to keep me still but the urge to move was unnerving. The feeling lasted almost three days. Phenergan and Compazine caused the same symptoms.

Reglan was prescribed to my infant daughter to help her with her acid reflux...how awful is that!!  I was aware of the potential side effects and never gave it to her.  Scary stuff!

I used Reglan after I had my son to increase my milk, it didn't work for me, and it didn't have any effect on me or my son (assuming he got some from my milk).
