I know! My mom tried killing herself after a horrible divorce with my dad this year, and that SAME nurse was so awful, I asked her if she was going to live and she was like i dont know but it doesnt look good..and she wouldnt let me go in and see her because I would get upset - I would've been MORE upset not seeing my mother if she HAD died. I called a billion other ER's around here and none will do anything, they said there's nothing we can do until 20 weeks, if you're in labor there's not much they can do to stop it, but I've felt MUCH better today, hardly any contractions and my back doesn't hurt anymore, I think I was just dehydrated! (hopefully) I go tomorrow to find out, and see my little boy/girl again! :] I think they're going to keep me tomorrow if I'm still having them - I'll keep you guys updated, thank you for everything you guys! :]
calcium channel blocker(cant think of the name of it), magnesium sulfate, terbutaline(which i think is the most common one), and indomethacen are all drugs used to help stop contraction.
As one of the ladies said, i think the drugs are only given after so many weeks, bcuz some of the drugs should not be used long term due to side affects to baby.(and after 20 weeks there is chance for survial for the baby due to the technology these days)
I would use a differrent er in the furture myself, i wouldve also told the nurse she was unprofessional for telling you someone elses bizzness, and do she understand Hipaa laws. It is there job to make you feel comfortable, not to scare you and basicly say hey, i dont think your baby will make it, she mite as well said that.
Stay laying down and drink as much water as possible!!! I dont know how far along you have to be in order for them to give you the shot...but they gave me a shot to stop my contractions.....did they mention that at all??
Good luck and keep us updated!
It sounds like much ado about nothing serious...glad to hear baby was well and please find a new ER to go to if needed...that one just doesn't sound right! There was so much they could have done to really determine what was going on and they just didn't step up to the plate!
good, moving around & everything - :] i hope everything goes well :(
Unfortunately they won't administer any meds (although there are meds to stop labor) before they think the baby is ready to survive in the outside world which would be around 20 weeks with NICU. I'm surprised that they didn't actually check your cervix to see if you were dilated or effaced...that would have been the true indicator if these were real labor contractions vs. braxton hicks vs. dehydration. AND they should have hooked you up to the machine (I forgot its name) that straps around your belly to sense and time contractions and their intensity to see if there were any patterns etc. Sounds like dehydration to me though. Also, sounds like this hospital is not very competent...I'd stay away from them with a ten foot poll. Try to find another place who will do more next time such as the internal exam, the monitoring of 'contractions', an IV for dehydration, EXPLAIN to you why they cannot/do not give meds to stop contractions early etc.
Good luck at your appointment tomorrow.
By the way, how was your baby doing on the ultrasound?
i do know that here they won't do anything until you are 20 weeks, you don't even get to go see them at labour and delivery...just the er.
i sugest getting a transvaginal u/s to check your cervix. Some womens braxton hicks hurt as much as a contraction.that way you will know if the contractions where doing anything or not.
stay off your feet till you know more. at 26 weeks they told me i'd have my baby and gave me steriods for the lungs. the next week after being in the hospital on bedrest my cervix was even shorter. after 5 weeks i am now at home on bed rest for 2 more until i am 34 weeks.
That is scary, hopefully they were just BH contractions. Keep hydrated and try to rest as much as possible.
I'm so sorry; I imagine your frustrations :( Hang in there, mama girl! I'll keep you in my prayers...
I knoww!! Everyone has told me that - I even called the hospitals two towns away and they ALL said "there's nothing we can do until 20 weeks" - sooo frustrating :[ Being my first pregnancy I don't know what the heck a friggen contraction is! I just feel back pain and they told me thats a contraction
girl that is so bs. I know for a fact there are meds they can give to stop labor. If they will give them this early.... I don't know that, but research it! Sorry you are going through this. Stay off ur feet and drink lots of water. Once When i was about i think 12 wks pregnant i got sick and didnt eat or drink all morning, felt like dieing. I started cramping so badly I knew it was dehydration so i started drinking loads of water. So stay hydrated.
thank you so much - i hope it was just dehydration, since I've been drinking like a bottle of water an hour I haven't felt them, if they're happening it's too light to tell ; I have a follow up appt. on monday with another ultrasound to see what's going on. But the worst part is the ER told me, if you're in labor, you're in labor..we can't stop it - WHATTT?! the nurse even went to the extent of saying "we just had a girl lose her baby at 16 weeks" - So I'm scared, hopefully everything goes good :[
Im not that far along, im so sorry you are going threw this, i hope everything will be ok, i ll keep you in my prayers.
