Thanks! I guess I will talk to my midwife about it this wed. when she comes to see me. When I was pregnant with Jeremiah, I don't remember any sort of testing done. But now, even my midwife seems to be insisting on some tests. Maybe to keep herself out of trouble as most states look down on midwives? I don't know. Either way, we will figure it out! I know it's always better to be safe than sorry.
I haven't had this test yet! I probably will in 2-4 weeks though. I don't remember having it with my other daughters either. I wonder if this is new protocol.
no once you test positive once then thats it. Atleast thats what they told me.
Thanks girls! I appreciate it. I guess it sounds like I will have to be on the antibiotics then...I've just been on so many meds lately, and this is not like me. I hardly ever pop a tylenol! lol. Oh well. Whatever is best for baby! =)
Also, is it possible to be tested again or will they only do it once?
I got a positive test also, around 35 weeks. The doctor basically told me that I would have had to be put on antibiotics through IV as soon as I get to the hospital. He said that if my water breaks I need to get to the hospital right away, rather than laboring at home. I don't know about the false positives or anything like that. I asked him what it means to have it and he said some women have it and others don't. I was induced so they started me on the antibiotics right away and everything turned out fine. The only thing was, we had to stay at the hospital for at least 48 hours so they could make sure everything was fine with my baby, which it was.
Hi Chantal. I tested positive as well. My doctor told me it was nothing to be concerned about and it just "pops" up in some women. She also told me that when I have another child and I get tested it may come up negative. She said I will only need to be on antibotics when I'm in labor. I was not told any numbers though, she only said that it was positive. She also said it had nothing to do with STDs, yeast infections or BVs. Sorry I don't have more info.
