I had quit smoking for about two weeks before I found out I was pregnant, but the nerves and freaking out that I was actually preggers brought me back to my old habit of needinga cigarette to calm down. I hadn't told the boyfriend so I had to sneak around which was absolutely ridiculous and I felt guilty. He found out one night and urged me to read what smoking can specifically do to our baby. It didn't take long googling until I was horrified and crying..I haven't had a cigarette since. I quit in February and am currently. 30 weeks along :)
I'm 17 Weeks now, as soon as I found out I was pregnant i quit. I read on all the side effects it had on the baby. I have a 4 year old with asthma and don't want the baby to have complications..I couldn't live with myself knowing I hurt my baby...I might be hard at first to quit, but do it at your own pace n stay strong think of your baby who doesn't know...good luck

Really? I've heard a LOT of people it helped them! I'm sure it might work for some people, so maybe she should try that, anything new she hasn't tried could be helpful to her.
i tried the candy/gum thing... it didnt work at all. it was horrible -.-
I want to say good for you to ALL of the ladies trying to cut down/quit, my mom kept her mouth busy with gum, candies, etc. and that's how she quit. My husband chews (not the same thing, but addictive) and he quit by keeping his mouth busy with sunflower seeds! I want to add also, just because your baby is a healthy weight at birth when you deliver, doesn't mean they'll be healthy later on. You have an increased risk of infections, lung problems, and SIDS after the baby is born, I have asthma and allergies from my mother smoking while pregnant for me, so you're definitely better off quitting, or cutting down, and do it steadily, not all at once so it's not a big shock to your system, good luck and congratulations!!
i'm in the same boat. i cant quit. but i did cut down quite a bit
Maybe I just got lucky but my morning sickness did not allow me to smoke, it made me feel so gross and I gagged from it. I stopped at 6 weeks. Smoking while pregnant is kind of a gamble, your baby either turns out fine or it has issues. For me its not worth it, but others seem to not be bothered.
Hey, I'm now 30weeks pregnant and I know how hard it is to pack it in completely! I've just gone 11 days without a cigarette but it took me 4 months or so to go from cutting down to completely quitting :( ask your midwife about nicotine replacement it helps big time ! X
i quit cold turkey because i thought instantly "my baby doesnt need this...i want the best for my baby." and i have been doing just fine and i couldnt go 2 hours with out a cigg before hand...second pregnancy and second time i have quit cold turkey just for my little peanuts =]
i know it may be difficult, but try to think of something else that could take its place....try sucking on lollipops?? or one specific candy to eat! my choice is the candy called "Smarties"
Im on pregnancy no 5 including 1 miscarriage. I couldn't give up but I got down to 1 a day. I started by only smoking half at a time and saving the rest for next time. Eventually I was having 1 a day but making that one last by only taking 1 or 2 puffs overtime I felt I needed one. It tastes horrid if you do that so I lasted longer between each one. This time I am determined and am using an electric cig. It is really working and I haven't smoked for a couple of weeks. Important only 11was pregnant so am really happy. The stop smoking headlines and groups are really good too and you can get info and help from your midwife. Good luck xx
I found out I was pregnant at 5 weeks and was smoking almost a full pack a day and you just gotta tell yourself to calm down and slowly quit cuz it won't only hurt your baby to smoke while pregnant but can hurt you to, it ***** and its hard but just think about how nasty it tastes before you take a drag and eventually most pregnant women naturally quit bcuz it will start to make you sick. That's how it worked for me anyway I'm 23 weeks and quit at 10 weeks.
I smoked tha whole 9 months for my first pregancey im on my 2 pregancey im 27 weeks and i still smoke.. my doctor told me its not good for tha baby but its soo hard to quite and my lil girl weighted 6lbs 11oz
