Is 7 ounces too much for a 2.5 month old?

OK... I took my daughter to the doctors today cuz she has been super fussy lately and she told me that Jaylynn is eating too much. She said that she should only be eating 4 ounces still. She told me that since she was eating too much it was making her belly hurt and that was what was making her cry. How many ounces were your children eating at that age?

I'm putting my money on it that it's the Similac. My son was the same exact way. They had me try every d*** thing Similac had and he would just SCREAM and jerk his little legs and was just beyond miserable... no sooner did I put him on the enfamil, he was fine. Even his doctor said for some reason, there's just something about Similac that causes irritation for alot of babies... my daughter was just fine on it when she was a baby, but every baby is different.
Also- WIC does indeed do Enfamil. You need a doctor's referral which is easy to get since they probably know how miserable your little one has been.

PS I don't know if this is your first child, or not...let her fuss for a few minutes, it won't hurt her and it will strengthen her lungs. If she has been fed, burped, not wet or dirty...you know nothing should be wrong with her...let her fuss a few minutes, I wouldn't suggest more than 5-10, but my son did the same thing and I let him cry a few minutes and he would calm down eventually.

My son is 4 months old now and is only taking 5 oz whenever he gets hungry (after he wakes up and after a couple/few hours). My doctor said the same thing to me that he should only be having 4 oz when he was 2 months. You have to remember a baby's tummy is very small, and over feeding them could cause their tummys to hurt. So I would suggest feeding more often and four ounces like the dr said.

my boys are almost 3 months and have been eating 5-7 oz WITH rice cereal since they were 2 months. eli can hold his head up great brett.....is getting there.

eli was super super fussy and would scream and cry ALL night long (7-8 hours) and nothing we would do could get him to stop so we made an appointment with his doc....turns out we weren't feeding him too much (he's only 13 lbs right now....) he has acid reflux. he was prescribed baby xantax and boom all better.

maybe she has tummy problems like acid reflux, indigestion or heart burn....

Keep feeding her the 7!  I think it may be colic too!  As long as she is holding it down, it's fine!

She is already lactose intolerant. She is on Similac Isomil (the soy formula). She does have very regular BM's; sometimes even 2 a day! I think it's colic, because she just screams! IDK... should I still let her eat the 7 ounces? I mean after I am done giving her the 4, she cries because she is still hungry. And I feel bad like I am starving her. What would you all do?

My son is 2 1/2 months too and he's knockn out 6-8 oz every 3 hours on the DOT. Like sleep for me means nothing for this boy. lol. My friend's daughter who was born the same day as my son (and in the room next to our's LOL) sleeps a good chunk at a time as well, and she's doing 6 oz each feeding but it's every 6-7 hours. Every child is different.
Also- is she on formula? If so, what kind? For some reason, my son cannot take Similac and after fighting with the WIC woman for like a week, I finally got him onto Enfamil Gentle Ease and he's been fantastic ever since. Also, be sure to burp her after every 2 oz or so to make sure you get alllll the airpockets out. She may not spit up but she can still harbor gas. Has she set herself on a regular BM schedule? She may be working on that too. There's so many factors... I highly doubt the AMOUNT of milk she's taking has anything to do with it. Possibly the brand, her BMs, etc. or she just may have a sensitive stomach which she will more than likely outgrow in the next month or so. She also maybe temporarily lactose intolerant wich she'll then either do soy or alomentum (that stuff stinks! It's the fish protein one). The gentle ease is partially broke-down proteins  but still milk-based and again, does wonders.... and discard all this about the formula if you're still breastfeeding. LOL. If you are breastfeeding then chances are she's fussy from gas and her BMs getting set on a schedule and that is just something you have to be patient  with. More burps :) Possibly more frequent feedings, too? I don't know any baby at 2 1/2 only doing 4 oz every 7 hours...

so an 1oz for every hour?  that's not even bad!!  i would actually expect her to more more often!  i suppose every doctor has their own opinion really, but i've never been told to take them off that much.  some babies are thirstier then others, some don't quite drink that much

Hmmmm... she eats the 7 ounces every 7 hours. And she don't throw up either. I don't know... it sounds like a lot for a wee baby.

Oh forgot to add that at that point they had me start them on rice cereal cause they could already hold their head up on their own, and they were still drinking that much!

Well, my son at 2 1/2 months was eating 8 oz every 3 hours, had just had surgery dur to a blockage in his ureter on one of his kidneys....So he wasn't drinking too much...  My daughter was drinking 5 oz every 3 1/2 hours..

Every baby is different, and if they can handle that much formula I wouldn't think it's too much.  Of course that's even what my doctors said, that as long as their not throwing it up, or having problems with it it's fine!
