Sugar Test

I have always heard that the sugar testing is so nasty. Some have said it tastes like flat soda, overly sugared koolaid and just plain yucky.... What flavor did you try and how did you manage to get it down. I know I'll most likely be gagged by it lol.... My appointment for that is in 4 weeks.

I had the oragne & it tastes like oragne soda just with a bunch of sugar in it. If you start drinking it don't stop it makes you not wanna finish it bc it's sooo sweet. I didn't personally think it tasted nasty just superrrr sugary & sweet! Nothing too bad. But this was the orange. I haven't had anything else..

Strangly, mine wasn't bad either. I was able to get down the Orange kind with no issues. I would take orange if you get the choice. Also, mine was chilled which made it much nicer.

I think I'm the only one who actually liked it! I thought it was great! I had the orange flavor and thought it tasted like the orange drink you get from McDonald's. I must be CrAzY!!

The stuff is bearable but like one of the other posters said by the time you get to the last little bit it will make you gag. Sorry but I almost vomitted from it. I did it because it's best for the baby but I wouldnt drink it any other time if you paid me lol and It's like a sugar free tasting juice thats loaded with a sugar substitute.

I think I'll go ahead and go along with the testing. Just to be on the safe side.. But, I'll try to get the orange since that seems to be the easiest of all.. and if they don't have it, well.. I'll hope for the best lol

You don't have to get the test, or any tests, at all. You can ask for a glucometer test (what diabetics use - it pricks your finger and tests your blood sugar). After much research I'm finding the GD test to not always be accurate and every doc/midwife has their different threshold level for what is normal and what is abnormal and most of the time what they consider abnormal is normal for pregnant women as it is normal for pregnant women to be slightly diabetic while pregnant.

Otherwise if you DO decide to go ahead with the Glucola and 1hr test the orange flavor is the easiest to get down. Sometimes you don't have a choice; it is whatever they have available. It should be refrigerated to make it a little more bearable. I have had the Cola flavor and it is absolutely disgusting.

I have had fruit punch and orange, both are pretty nasty but I would say orange is slightly better. Good luck :)

He moves a good bit now so I can't imagine how it's going to be after I drink that stuff lol..
As long as I pass, that's all I care about! lol!

I sure hope since they are making me get there at 8 that they'll draw my blood at the right time! a double draw would make me grumpy lol...

How long does it take for them to test the sugar?

It's not so bad - I drink it as fast as I can - LOL  For my first baby, I had a fruit punch flavor and the second baby I had orange.  The first 1/2 to 2/3 of the drink is no problem, but once you drink that much, then it gets hard to finish.  Just chug as fast as you can and it'll be over in no time. :-)
Oh, and make sure they draw your blood exactly one hour from when you take it - last time my nurse only waited 40 minutes (she wrote down the time wrong) and had to re-draw 20 minutes later - OUCH!

LOL Im sooooooooo glad Im passed this part of my pregnancy! I would defintly go with the orange. Ive used it all 4 times and wouldn't dare go with another since that one is bad enough. But be warned..Your baby is going to be moving ALOT! after you drink this stuff because it has so much sugar in it. Good Luck!

Maybe I won't have a hard time with it..... Tuesday when we found out the sex and went for the anatomy scan, his head was way down on my bladder and he wouldn't move away good enough for her check the inside, so were having to go back in 4 weeks. Went ahead and made my appointment for both on the same day. So, the tech is going to measure the baby's head again and look inside so she said it'll only take about 3-5 minutes. I'm supposed to drink the stuff before my ultrasound and then afterwards when she measures and all that, wait for a little while and then let them test me..... In a way, I'm excited to get it over with cause anything overly sugary or flat is gross lol

I've had the orange with 5 of my pregnancies and something like fruit punch with one of them.  Fruit punch is BLEECCHHH.  The orange I've always thought was ok.  I've never had a problem drinking it and have always just chugged it down in one shot.
