I used to just use a nappy bucket with a lid and then make my DH empty it but once my little one started on the solids it became unbearable so we now just have a normal bin in her room and use the nappy sacks (deodorised plastic bags). I usually get 2 wet nappies in each bag (used to get more when the nappies were smaller) and one number two to a bag, which goes straight out the back deck to be taken down tot he big bin the next time i go downstairs. The bin in her room gets emptied every 2/3 days and is fine. I then glen 20 the bin afterwards to get rid of any left over smells and germs - workd well for me. I think it is just a matter of regular changing as there is not much you can do.
i kept my trash can on the back porch and when i changed dylan i would put it in a plastic grocery bag, tie it up and just walk a few steps to throw it in the trash....worked for a while until stray dogs started coming around but luckily dylan started using the potty at 16 months (was wearing pull-ups as well) but it cut down on the changing!!
That's a good point, we live on the second story so I don't really have to worry about that.
GRose, that's actually a good idea! I need to get something that latches shut though. Who knows what wild and stray animals will try to get in there (yuck)!
We go the Diaper Genie 2 when our daughter was born, she almost 2 now and loved it, but it did start to stink a little as she got older. We used Lysole (not sure if I spelled that correctly, sorry) but it helped. We had to get rid of it when we moved, so what we started doing was either hanging a plastic grocery bag on the front door and putting the diapers in it and taking them out every day. Or we would wrap the stinky diapers in a plasic grocery bag and put it in the regular trash can which has a lid on it, it helps. Good luck!
I recently started to keep my diaper pail on the porch, no joke it stinks up the whole apartment otherwise. It is kinda a pain to go on the porch every time I change a diaper but at least my home doesn't smell like rotting booty. I don't know how it will work in the winter though with all of the snow....hmmm.
the Diaper Genie 2 works great.
Okay I didn't read anyone's posts here, cause i dunno. LOL But My kids make my garbage worse then rotting food! LOL So I simply use a garbage can that has the lid to raise up, but on the lid I have a febreeze stick to air freshner, it's helps! Reduces stink until I pull the bag out then it's barf central LOL
When I worked at a preschool, we kind of did a "by hand" Diaper Genie sort of thing. All diapers had to be put in a small plastic bag and then thrown in a standard kitchen sized garbage pail. However, because we had upwards of 25 two year olds, plus throwing things away for lunch and snacks, the garbage was taken out about 5 or 6 times a day! The pail never held onto the stink ...tho usually after changing a few poopie diapers the room had a "wonderful" aroma for a while. >.>
Unless they've re-designed since I had Elaina (which was over 3 years ago)???
Linzola, I loved mine too! Until it got stinky. LOL!!! It was seriously the best diaper pail but I just couldn't get the stale smell of old diapers out of it. I even put it on the side of the road (we have bulky trash that picks up large items) and someone from an apartment took it. But then they brought it BACK to the curb because it stank. I still laugh thinking about it!
I dont have a toddler butI LOVE my Diaper Champ
UGH i remember trying everything, I had the diaper Genie, scented liners, a trash can specifically for the poo diapers, NOTHING worked, it still would smell..... So what i started doing ( a hassle but no smells) was taking the diaper right out after we changed her, might be a little extra leg work if the trash can is a bit of a walk from the house but that is the only thing i have found that helps eliminate odor.....
