Trying to conceive with cancer and taking percocet

Hello, I have thyroid cancer that had spread to the lymph nodes on the right side of my neck.  A week ago I had surgery to remove the lymph nodes (surgery went well and I was sent home).  Now I am on percocet for the pain.  I have been able to reduce my doses and think I will be completely off in a couple of days.  My doctor said after the surgery, I could start trying to conceive.  I was so excited because I have been wanting a baby for about 6 years and my doctors had told me to hold off for a while.  Anyway, as a result of my excitement, I had unprotected sex a few times with my husband within the last three days.  He wanted to wait, but I really wanted to begin.  I told him it would help with the pain I was having and it did.  But, I had forgotten all about taking percocet until today.  I looked at previous forums, but would like info for myself.  I really think it will be a while before I conceive, but the thought scared me a bit on the chance that I could be pregnant.  I have been on birth control since my son of 7 years.  I was using the IUD, not hormonal one (My doctor removed that a month ago and I was using condoms up till the surgery).  Now I am not on any type of birth control.  I was given vicodin and percocet and told to choose one.  I haven't taken vicodin since last weekend.  Please let me know if I should completely stop taking percocet or vicodin.  I am very concerned, please help.  Thank you.

Well, luckily it takes at least six days for the baby to implant on your uterus. If there is a chance that you did concieve, maybe you should try to wean yourself off now, then you wont be worrying that you may have harmed the baby in any way.

Vicodin, Hydrocodone, Lortab and percocet are some of the painkillers that are sometimes prescribed during pregnancy.  However its best to avoid ANY medication in the first trimester when the baby is still developing.  If you find out you are pregnant it would be best to stop taking the painkillers alltogether.  At this point it's probably best to continue to use protection until you are free of the pain meds and your doctor has given you the official go ahead.
