Does the pain subside whe laying down or changing positions? Do warm baths and tylenol help? Those are things to consider.  Most times if the pain subsides then i can be nothing. Pain can be from a number of things in early pregnancy. Ligament stretching can be quite painful at times. Ovarian cysts, fibroids, untreated uti or other infection, dehydration can even cause severe cramping.  (Very important to drink lots of water)Also its actually quite common during pregnancy to have gall bladder or even appendix issues.  5 weeks is very early to see anything on an ultrasound unless the drs office has very good equipment.  Most drs offices do not have good equipment.  Since you are not spotting that's a good sign.  Drs always give you the worst and scare you most times.  I hope you are going to have followup bloodwork to see if your levels are rising properly and another ultrasound in about a week.  I wouldn't worry just yet.  Good luck to you.

Cramping can be normal in early pregnancy. If you're having severe pain on one side and/or bleeding then it warrants another visit to the hospital. At five weeks not much can be seen on an ultrasound. You need to make an appt with an OB or midwife and explain you may be having an ectopic pregnancy.
