Ultrasound: Did We Skip A Twin?

I recently went in to determine a due date. The ultrasound technician was very short with me and incredibly rude (it didn't help that my 9mo daughter was ready for a nap, and wanted mommy to hold her) I apparently had not filled my bladder enough for an abdominal ultrasound, and so we went ahead with the vaginal. She determined I was 8 wks and 5 days. She also found a second sac, it was sitting just above the other. She said it was just an extra sac that never developed/ absorbed twin and that it would resolve itself. However, now when I look at the sonograph I keep thinking the little stinker was just hiding behind Twin#1. Is this possible? They didn't check my blood or urine that day (so a hightened HCG is undetermined) and I have a tipped/retroverted/tilted (whichever you prefer) uterus. At a "looking up" angle is it possible the entire second sac was not fully visible?

With there being 2 sacs te doctor will do another vaginal ultrasound for two reasons: one to get a better look at it once you are a few weeks farther along and two to make sure if it is just a sac that is not developed that it will absorb! If you dont hear from your doctor about the ultrasound...I would definently ask them about it!

Don't let a tech dismiss you or make you worry! They don't know how to read the ultrasounds! According to my doctor they are taught to use the machine and what areas the doctor needs for the certain ultrasound they are performing! I have had a tech repeatedly get me worked up and worried! I did not have any good ultrasounds which is sad...I had the tech tell me my baby wouldn't look like a baby until 30wks....that the best pictures I could get is skull shots! Some techs just get in and get out and don't care!

I'm sorry they treated you that way! Hopefully future ultrasounds will be more enjoyable!

it you have a retroverted uterus, it def could have been missed, but you should talk with your doctor and another scan should be done at around 12 wks
