My OB office also has me test every time. I'd rather them test to make sure everything is fine then not. What is UTI?
My first two pregnancies did not do test at every apt. My current one does, however, so it was kind of a surprise for me. I didn't really expect it. My Midwife said she checks for UTI's mostly, not sure what else.
My doctors only test if you first complain of symptoms or if you have a history of UTIs (which I do) I had my appointment today and I definitely had to pee in a cup just to make sure it was not re-occuring. I won't know until they either call me and tell me to pic up meds or at my next appointment when they tell me I don't have it. It is a pain but it really is in the interest of your and the baby's health!
In this pregnancy book I got from my health insurance company, it says they check for UTI's. It didn't say for anything else, but I'm assuming they also check for protein.

Yes, I was also tested at every visit...its bothersome, but is in the interest of best health!
Most docs check for protein, sugar, bacteria (uti). Atleast, that's what my docs have checked for. It really depends on the doc and the strips they buy. The test strips may be the color change test or they may have a machine that reads the strip and checks for various things. Not all docs test for the same things.
