You are most fertile 12-16 days before your next cycle.  Count backwards up to 16 days and start ttc from there.  If you a regular, you should be able to pin point when you should ovulate.  Check www.mymonthlycycles.com too, as it helped me and I got pregnant the first time.  If you have a 28 day cycle, you next af would be due around 3/21 and your fertile time would be this week-weekend.

As for the spotting, it may be from having sex and just irritated.

I thought you were most fertile 14 days before your next cycle-so for example, if you had a 28 day cycle, it would be around day 14 you'd be most fertile/ovulating (maybe a couple days earlier).  If you had a 35 day cycle, it would be on day 21 (or around that).  If you JUST had your period chances are very low that you could be pregnant.  I'm not in the medical profession-these are just some things I have come across in my journey to get pregnant.  Hope it helped.
