Going off Prometrium

I had an IUI back in September, and am now 8 weeks pregnant.  My Fertility doctor has had me taking 300mg per day of prometrium since 2 days after IUI.  He now says my Progest. level is 44.8 and would like me to stop taking the prometirum.  I have seen that most people stay on it until 10 to 12 weeks.  Not sure what I should do.  If someone could please help this worried first time new mom.

My dr's office said week 12 is the stop. I have a friend who took it all through her pregnancy.  I guess differen dr's offices say different things.  I'm sure they'll be monitoring your progesterone level.  Good luck!

Well I thought when you take prometrium it gets into your blood and can distort that actual value.  I would maybe ween yourself off of it, since you dont want a big drop and then get tested again a week after stopping it, to confirm it is at least above 20

My RE said you can actually go off of it at 6-7 weeks but they are paranoid for you and tell you 8 weeks.  I asked her a bunch of times if she was SURE and she said YES!  (and they never even measured my level, your level  sounds good)  But of course I was even more paranoid and stayed on it until 10 weeks anyways (also because I had a ton leftover!) when I was comfortable stopping.  I had no problems stopping (no cramping, etc.).  Good luck - I think you are safe to stop with a level of 44!
