OK so here goes i really need someones help with this. my son got hpv while living with his father.. It is still unclear as to how he got it and is still under investigation. He now lives with me. I had a pap smear done on july 1st and it came back abnormal. They are saying that the changes are mild and transient. WTF does that mean?? they are also saying that it was positive for hpv. I have never had an abnormal pap smear until now. and i am 13w pregnant. so someone please tell me what is going on. I am freaking out. Is it going to hurt the baby?? should i say anything to my boyfriend now or after the dr. appt?? i need some advice!!

As someone that went through this, let me start with this, don't worry too much if you have hpv. During my first pregnancy I had an abnormal pap. They said it might be because of the pregancy but that they would have to test again later. My daughter was born perfectly healthy. After she was born, they test again. Long story short, my was the cancerous strain and I eventually had to have the leep procedure. However not all strains of hpv are cancerous. The more common strains often present as warts or your body fights it off with no symptoms. If you are that concerned, as i assume you are, discuss it more with your ob/gyn  and see if he/she sees any causes for concern. Your baby should be fine though. Best of luck and I hope everything goes well for you and your family.

I've had HPV/warts.. I didn't know I had them until I went to the ER for a different reason. A month prior to that I had been seen by the gyno and there was nothing there.. never had anal sex and they were the worst there. I was in complete shock and to this day still have no idea where I got it, I have an idea but not sure. I didn't sleep around, which is why I can pinpoint but I could've got it years before. 4 years later and no reoccurence of warts. I'm 24 weeks today and still clean. Ill always carry the virus but nothing to worry about now. However, I got a pre-cancerous growth from the HPV I had to have surgically removed about a year after the warts and having them removed. This growth was purple and huge. But I'm perfectly fine, I check myself every week if not everyday.  All will be okay :) I no longer see the gyn I had for the growth BC he scared me so bad. Doctors are NOT always right, and can cause more harm. Do your own research and get second opinions.

She was tested every 3 months for about a yea in half n took the 3doses of hpv vaccines n thankfully after her last pap it came back normal. Her obgy said that your body can fight it off. There are ppl who have it n never knoe becaise by the time they get checked their own body fought it off.

Under the nails. Creepy. I thought that hpv infrected mucous membranes.

One lady looked at the kidshealth website and it said that children can get a form of hpv thru cuts or under their nails under moist conditions or something. Makes sense too. Or that it wasn't caught at the last pap and was actually passed to bubs thru child birth? Just other scenarios

Could he have something called water warts? This is sometimes confused with hpv warts.

A male can only be diagnosed with the HPV virus if he is exhibiting some physical symptoms such as lesions or warts in his genital areas.   Hence why  we wondering if the wee boy had any of these as this would be the only way that he could be diagnosed with the HPV virus.

Update. Just checked CDC about testing for HPV in men.
According to the CDC website:

"Currently, there is no HPV test recommended for men. The only approved HPV tests on the market are for screening women for cervical cancer. They are not useful for screening for HPV-related cancers or genital warts in men.

There is no test for men to check one’s overall “HPV status.” But HPV usually goes away on its own, without causing health problems. So an HPV infection that is found today will most likely not be there a year or two from now."

Men cannot be tested for it. I've looked on several sites, especially when I first had it. They only way to know a man has it, is if there are symptoms present. In other words, actual warts. They may have updated it since I last looked but pretty sure they still cant test men for it. That's why they reccomend both genders get the vaccine now.

How do people get HPV?

HPV is passed on through genital contact, most often during vaginal and anal sex. HPV may also be passed on during oral sex and genital-to-genital contact. HPV can be passed on between straight and same-sex partners—even when the infected person has no signs or symptoms. Most infected persons do not realize they are infected, or that they are passing HPV on to a sex partner. A person can still have HPV, even if years have passed since he or she has had sexual contact with an infected person. It is also possible to get more than one type of HPV.In rare circumstances, a pregnant woman with genital HPV can pass the HPV on to her baby during delivery

I'd just say my pap came abnormal so they want to see me again to take a sample of the cervical tissue. Which is what a colposcopy is :)

With my doctors office they have website where you send e mails and view appointments and test results and such....  this what the e mail read: it was positive for presence of high risk HPV DNA typing. This means that there are some atypical cells seen on your pap smear. These changes are likely only mild and transient. The result is NOT an indication of cervical cancer. However , given the abnormal results, we recommend a colposcopy....

I am not stopping the investigation on my son because just as a mommies intuition i know there is more to the story then what is being told.

Should i tell my boyfriend now or wait until i see the doctor, i mean could they just be wrong or something. I dont want to freak him out ya know?

Right I randomly go thru my medical records because I'll hear something that conflicts with what I have there so I'll look. I keep them(not ER just GYN) cuz of the fact that I had the Mirena and was allergic to latex and Mirena had a latex component at the time and it pretty much destroyed my uterus. So I needed proof that I told them I was allergic to latex. Which I KNOW I did but my file there was a lot of pages "unreadable." -.- ever since I'm a record junkie!
