You should definitely have a crib or bassinet for the baby to sleep in... co-sleeping is never recommended... you could roll over on the baby in the middle of the night or the baby could fall off the bed... plus SIDS runs a higher risk if you co-sleep... just dont do it... your mother in law needs to do some research before putting in her 2 cents
I know myself we will not be co-sleeping with our baby, we don't want them to get too attached to the bed and than having issues sleeping on their own. My friend has ran into this problem lately, her daughter is only 6 or 7 months old now.
My parents coslept with all of their kids, but my husband and I chose to have our son sleep next to our bed in a bassinet. The risk of SIDS is so much higher when you cosleep...I would never forgive myself if something happened. He's literally right next to us, we can reach over the side and snuggle him if he's fussy, I can hear him breathe all night. He's never had problems falling asleep. I'm not anti-cosleeping, I know there are ways to make it safer, but for us personally, we didn't consider it to be a safe option, plus we knew we wouldn't get any sleep!. If she makes a big deal about it, look up the percentage of SIDS cased where baby was sleeping with a parent...
Definitely crib/bassinet it's safer an better for everyone in the long run! My daughter slept in her bassinet an then went into her crib no problem an was moved into her own room she is very independent an has no problem sleeping alone but she still is my little cuddling buddy on the couch she's 15 months. Plus if the baby is in your bed say goodbye to alone time an urging with your man an being paranoid that you'll suffocate or rolling on top of your baby! Good luck mama do what's best for you :))
Having A Crib, Bassinet, Or Playpen Next To Your Bed Is Not Child Neglect Lol Your Mother In Law Is Crazy.
Dont do it! No co sleeping lol. My son is very independent. Hes never slept in my bed with me.we can cuddle on the couch but thats about it.
