No fair..I didn't get a goody bag! haha
I think everything was covered already, good luck
Ladies thank you so much for all your help. I need to make sure I get DH's family history before I go. I am praying everything will be what it should be and I will let you all know how everything goes!
-fill out paperwork (family history
-pee in a cup
-weigh
-blood pressure
-pap smear
-feel your stomach
They won't try to find a heartbeat this early or measure fundal height (height of uterus) as it is still under your pubic bone.
Mine doesn't see you until you're at least 8 weeks. They did all the routine stuff, too (blood pressure, blood work, background info, etc...) but they also did an ultrasound to make sure the pregnancy was viable (ex: not a tubal pregnancy).
Also, if you haven't already begun taking pre-natal vitamins and/or folic acid, you should get them to prescribe them while you're there. I know you can get them over the counter as well, but I always use the ones they prescribe since insurance pays for them. Natacaps are awesome because they're not the usual horse pills that taste nasty as soon as they hit your mouth. They're capsules, so you don't taste anything at all and they're easy to swallow.
And I totally agree with the peeing in a cup thing. It is a skill that has to be mastered! The bigger you get, the smaller the cup seems and it gets more and more awkward to get the pee into the cup! LOL
Best of luck in your pregnancy! :-)
i waited and went to my doctor till i was ten weeks because they are just going to set u a date that is closer to your tenth week, they do all the ultra sounds and stuff but get use to peeing in a cup and getting your blood taken, and girl every time u look at that scale lol.............nall but u do get weighted every time though and Congrats on your baby.......
My first prenatal appt wasn't until I was almost 7 months pregnant ...but the initial visit was what they called the "New OB Work-up". I sat with the nurse and went over family history. She gave me a bag with lots of goodies in it, as well as a notebook with important info (meds, Dr's phone numbers, a list of what to expect during appts throughout the pregnancy, etc). Last thing they did was have me pee in a cup and they drew my blood.
My next appointment was supposed to be with the doctor, but I ended up going back before that appt, b/c I had some bleeding. I ended up getting an ultrasound and doing my glucose test the next day! lol It wasn't until the following week that I finally met my doctor!
And, like ashiepooh said, at your first appt you'll be inducted into the "Master of Peeing in a Cup" Club! lol
Well the ladies are all right...... that is pretty much what happens at the first visit.... Minus the ultra sound (depending upon your dr), or they actually might give you one... But other than that all the other things will happen, weight check and blood pressure, Pee in a cup, blood draw, Pap and internal exam to confirm pregnancy....family history of you and partner.....and a chat with the dr.... I also did receive a little goodie back with all kinds of useful info and magazines and my pre-registration to the hospital lol
Good Luck on your first appointment!
My dr does't have us come in until 8wks unless problems and the first thing they do is a sono to confirm the pregnancy. Then the have you pee in a cup, weight, family back ground, and send us to a lab for blood work up. She does't do a pap smear until 10 wk. Hope this is helpful. Hope you have a wonderful and relatively uneventful 9 months.

Oh and when you begin your journey of mastering peeing in a cup! LOL
Yeah, and lets not forget the wonderful "checking your weight" and blood pressure. Also, at mine you met with the insurance person to see what your insurance covers and they let you know the costs of things and what you are expected to pay and when. After all of this, at my OB's office, you will then schedule another appointment for your u/s, usually between 8-12 weeks. Mine is 8 weeks, but I've read other ladies say 12. Good luck and Congrats!!!
Oh they go over your family history, and bf/dh's family history! Do a pap smear, and well my doctors office gives out a book, a notebook to bring to every appointment and a free diaper bag! And blood draw. :)
