My Dr only prescribes prenatals if you ask specifically, like I found put with my first.one that over the counters ones made me sick so they face me an RX for some. And they have with both my pregnancies there after. Just ask your Dr about it.
I got my pregnancy confirmed at my regular doctor and she prescribed me prenatals. But when I went to my first OB appointment, she didn't mention them...so I asked. She said just to get some over-the-counter, that there's no difference between the ones in the store and a prescription.
Ive not been perscribed them at all. I got otc ones at walmart that made me sick & my doc told me to switch to either a gummy version or to flinstone vitamuns. She recomended I take them the whole time not just for the baby but also to help you. And I can deff tell a diference in the days I forget to take them.
The brain and spine develop in the first trimester so your body needs the dha and epa to help support the babies development. I took mine before and during my first trimester, not so much for the first 2 months of my second and now 2 weeks away from.my third I feel like crap so I started taking them again.
I found out I pregnant when I saw my regular family doctor and she prescribed them right then and there. She asked me after she put all the info in if I wanted the prescribed ones or the over the counter ones. I asked what's the difference, and she said there is no difference except in the price, then she laughed a little lol. So I took the prescribed ones because I'm on a budget and I know she wouldn't steer me wrong, but I wish I would've bought an OTC one that tasted better and was easier to swallow.
wouldnt the first trimester be the most important time to take prenatals ? lol , that's what I was always told anyways.
Just go buy some over the counter. :)
My Dr told me to prevent more nausea prenatals werent needed really until your first trim. Was over. He gave me mine week 11. Nothing to worry about but if your not comfy maybe try a diff doc.
Some obs don't prescribe a prenatal unless you ask. They may assume since you aren't asking about them, you are probably buying them OTC at a pharmacy.
That's what my ob did.
