maybe a stupid question, about heart beats..

Is it at any point in the pregnancy possible to hear the baby's heartbeat in the womb when its really far along, by putting an ear up to the mother's stomach? this might be a dumb question, but i really don't know.. just curious..?

It could be your own heart beat also.

I know you can with a stethoscope, but I'm sure you could hear the heartbeat (or at least the fluids) if the placenta isn't in the front of the uterus. :)

Now that I think of it....I remember when I was pregnant with my first, I was about 7 or 8 months along...and one of my younger sisters were trying to hear the heartbeat. She stuck her head down on my belly and my son kicked her....really hard!  SO thats why it was never able to happen with me.  Ppl were affraid of my kids kicking them! lol Just thought I would share that.

I don't think you can, but then again I have never tried to listen to a baby's heartbeat through the moms belly.
