Who's had Mirena and did you gain weight?

My question is for those who had Mirena. Before (or after) you tried mirena did you gain weight on other hormonal birth control methods?

I ask because I gain weight on almost any hormonal method, including putting on 15lbs with Nuvaring. I've got to decide if I want Mirena or the Copper IUD after this baby.

we don't want another baby for 3-5 years yet Im not sure if I've got an allergy to copper. I know I cant wear earrings or piercings unless they're stainless steel (even then still deal with a little infection) or nickel free and Hypoallergenic, or real gold or silver or platinum.

I'm not askinf if you've had complications with your period on the IUD or Mirena, but if you gained weigth with other hormonal methods, and if you gained weight with mirena.

I have been on the Mirena for a little over 2 years now and have gained about 15 pounds! I have also battled with depression from the added hormones...I am thinking that I personally can not handle any extra hormones, I am considering having it removed and using a spermicide to avoid any unhealthy side effects. what are your thoughts?

Omg I didn't know that!!
What a lying b*tch!!!

Ugh.
I am doooomed.

I dunno anything but the mini pill that's safe to take while breastfeeding and effective.
The only one I know of is the mini pill and it's such a low dose of hormones that alot of women still get pregnant while taking it.

Ugh!!

Your speaking of "implanon" or another type of comparable thing. I wanted to warn you against that.

Your doctor is lying if he or she says it won't make you gain weight. and it is not a new form of depo shot.

That method has a HIGH dose of hormones. It's worse than depo IMO from what I've heard.  It's bigger than a grain of rice it's just under matchstick size a1cm or 1inch incision to put it in..

Personally my OBGYN won't give me it since I have my skin disorder, they're too scared it'll cause infection.

I know an IUD has a risk of porforation and other things but since I"ve never had issues with ovarian cysts I'd rather stick w/the IUD/IUC.

Here's a link to the method your looking at:

Did you know that the surgery to remove implanon can be complicated and harder than the one to put it in? If you gain weight or it moves deeper into your tissues there can require a pretty large incision to remove it and a big scar too.

I have been on other hormonal BC and have gained weight. I was on Mirena and did'nt gain weight, but i had some other bad side effects. By the way two of my sister-in-laws have mirena IUD and have not gained weight for the almost five years it has been in. Good luck, but research it good. I know it works really well for a lot of people it just did'nt for me.

I was gunna get the Mirana and after thorough research and discussion with my old pediatrician when I was in Mass visiting and went to my sister's doc appointment, decided NOT to get it.

There are more con's than pro's with the Mirana.
Weight gain isn't as common with the Mirana, BUT it can cause long term problems.
Ovarian cysts are common with the Mirana and can be very painful. [[This is all from what I can remember that Dr. Hanks told me.]]
Slippage of the product can cause internal injuries and scarring causing you to not be able to get pregnant again.
Infection from having a foreign object inside you, your body can reject it can cause problems.

Those are just a few.
I would highly suggest not getting it.
Dr. Hanks said most Docs she knows won't let a woman get the Mirana unless they've had atleast 2 kids. Which you will have 2 kids by then, so you're set. BUT, the risks are scary to me and I don't want any of that to happen.

She suggested a new form of the Depo Shot for me.
It's this lil thing, about the size of a grain of rice, they implant it under your skin on your inner, upper arm, and it stays there for 3 years.
It's breastfeeding safe as far as she knows, and it sounds perfect seeing it's something I'm looking for.
And she said so far there hasn't been any serious issues with it.

I forget what she said it's called, but I'm deff gunna look into it after Josh n I tie the knot cuz the doc I'm seeing doesn't offer that one and I need to find a doctor that does and I'll need Josh's insurance to do it cuz I'm limited on docs I can see on Medicaid.

Also I'm not willing to get fixed and don't want DH to get fixed until it's for good (when we're 35 or close to it) Even though it's reversible, I know that if he ever got a V he's never get it reversed.
